      Re: \"Unoiffical\" salary cap

The owners had a chance to do that either in 94 when the players went on strike or last year by forcing another strike or not agreeing on a contract with the union until they agreed to a salary cap.

Have you heard of 2 wrongs not making a right, just because pohlad is a tool doesn' mean steiner is correct.

        Re: \"Unoiffical\" salary cap

when did I say Steinbrenner was right?

I even posted that I don't agree with everything he does. What I did say is that he cares for his team and shouldn't be penalized for putting money back into his franchise.

I believe that you have misinterpreted my message.

        Let's say it again.

        1. Collision is illegal
        2. You shouldn't only blame Steinbrenner for baseball's problems. You should blame every owner.
        3. It's not the player's fault. It's the owners. Look at the discussions, look at the offers, look at the failed chances.

If it helps put an end to people whining about the Yanks, I'm all for it.
Anyways not only are greedy owners to blame for the current salary situation, but you also have to take in consideration greedy players and the players union.

but when the salary offers in arbitration are extremely similar that indicates that the owners might have agreed to a budget, which is illegal.

I understand what you are sayin, but the point is that it's illegal in MLB and in the United States.

that's like Hollywood Video, Massive Video, and Blockbuster Video agreeing to a minimum price for video game rentals. That eliminates competition (which is the pride of the US) and is ofcourse illegal.

well yea. Don't take my statements too seriously. Ofcourse the players have somethin to do with the high salaries.

My point is that the owners are the ones signin the contract. If you are the one askin for the money and someone is willin to give it to you...are you being greedy or smart?

The players are basically askin for these salaries b/c they know some owner is gonna cave in and give it to 'em. I'd do it too if i knew someone out there was willin to offer it.

A teacher can't say, give me 80,000 a year to teach 1st graders b/c no school system in their right mind will give a teacher that amount of money. But I bet every teacher out there wants that money. Isn't the being greedy? They just can't show how greedy they are b/c they realize it won't matter. They will find themselves without a job.
