he were to approve a trade to the Cubs and (its a big 'if') help them win a WS? Would it be more enhanced for winning with the Cubs or would it still be tarnished for not helping the Yankees win a WS? Which is the bigger accomplishment? And even if success with the Cubs were the bigger accomplishment, would it matter in termd of how he is perceived? Bear in mind that WGN has a vast broadcast region and what reporters say in NY may not affect the perception elsewhere as much as some are inclined to believe. Thoughts?

If he helped the Cubs win a WS all would be forgotten with most of the baseball world, though he would likely be hated even more in New York.

What is this national obsession with ARod anyway? Didn't Bonds pretty much suck in the postseason up until 2002? Has anyone looked at Scott Rolen's postseason numbers? Not good. Not good at all. Thank goodness he's not a Yankee or he'd be treated like a member of Al Qaeda.

America loves any celeb who comes onto the scene and tears it up, goes into a spiral of some sort or another and finally makes a huge comeback.

Of course, A-Rod hasn't spiraled in terms of actual play during the regular season but he's been percieved as a choke artist in the playoffs. His legacy is somewhat like Dave Winfield's was before he helped the Blue Jays in '92. After that, Winfield's reputation as a solid HOF'er was restored and the whole "Mr. May" talk of Steinbrenner went away.

The same will happen to A-Rod, hopefully he does this a bit sooner in the grand scheme of things then Winfield did.

Bring him right over. Just don't trade Zambrano or Ramirez for him.

I would give up Kerry Wood, Mark Prior, Matt Murton, and maybe a minor leaguer for him if possible.

That won't happen without first giving up an abundance of pitching to acquire him...If that means giving up Zambrano and Hill, so be it... Think about that before you think about Arod in Cubs uni.

Ok, you need to go back and reread. It was acknowledged that it was a big if so where you get this idea that anyone is thinking that its right there in front of us is false. Besides the distortion, the rest of your post is actually more topical in the other thread. What made me think of creating this thread was the constant utterances that ARod will perceive himself to be a failure if leaving NY so if thats true, what would displace that.

Ok for anyone old enough could you guys tell me if this theory holds true because I seem to recall the whole baseball world falling in love with Dave Winfield all over again in '92...or it could've just been a Toronto phenomenon.

Disagree wholeheartedly. NY will not speak kindly of him, but the respect is there... Remember before he came to the Yanks, Mets fans already were disliking him just because he went to Texas. Arod is too prolific of a player to dismiss as a failure. His ongoing short stint with the Yankees so far is bittersweet. He doesn't show up in playoffs, which is held against him. The only question is how long is he going to be in an October slump..considering he's taking his opportunities to shine in postseason for granted...Not every team are the Yankees and not every team can expect to take part in the playoffs year in and out.

He's the highest paid player in baseballl who plays like he shouldn't be.

On top of that, A-Rod =/= Bonds. Bonds has caused so much tarnish to the game's image that it's immeasurable...
