Re: Bochy to the Giants
Ya AP is reporting it now to.
I can't believe it though. Boch has been with the Pads for close to 24 years (both playing and managing). I wonder whose going to take over the Pads now?Michael Riga - OS's unoffical MacAddict

Re: Bochy to the Giants
I would be kind of pissed at Bochy if I was a Padres fan for going to the rival team....but whatever.Comment

Re: Bochy to the Giants
I don't know if I like this move for Bochy. I always think of him as a guy that works better with a younger team. Yeah I know he took a mostly veteran Padres team to a World Series but I dunno. I just have a feeling it won't work out for him.
Maybe they'll hire Girardi in SD?Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Bochy to the Giants
Why? It was Padres management who decided not to extend him until after the season. The Padres showed no loyalty to Bochy, why should he reciprocate?Comment

Re: Bochy to the Giants
Ahh....I didn't know the full-on details of the situation. If that was the case, then I'd probably go to the rival also.Comment

Re: Bochy to the Giants
Showed no loyalty? What the hell do you call 24 years of service? Plus all most 2 mil per year. I wish someone would show me no loyalty like that. Let him go. Change is good, and it's time to move on.Comment

Re: Bochy to the Giants
They let him go out and explore other options. If I were Bochy, this would tell me they didnt really want me around. Couple that with not extending his deal beyond next year, and its a no brainer. A guy thats done the job he's done deserves better. Good luck to him and the Giants.Comment

Re: Bochy to the Giants
If no one has gotten the message yet, it's clear that since Sandy came this team has slowly been going towards the moneyball philosophy. I'm not surprised because of all the talk about what a manager is supposed to be in the moneyball philosophy, a manager like Bochy does not fit. Bochy would not have been able to give his input on the players with the upper management.
I think the move that proved that Bochy wouldn't be around longer is when he was called into Alderson's office back in June and Sandy asked why the **** was Castilla playing. Bochy said he was playing the player who was the best option at third. Of course that caused a little tension, but the front office didn't even fix that situation. I mean, Walker and Branyan were not starters.
In any case, say what you want about Bochy being a traitor, but he gave his all being a manager, making a few boneheaded mistakes, but he suffered through years having to manage crap talent. He wasn't going to get another extension (I'm betting the extension Sandy gave him was a little popularity move just so fans would like him) and he's getting a better deal in San Francisco with more security to his job.
What's worse? The front office pretty much letting Bochy go, or the fans that want to boldly state that he served here 24 years then call him a traitor when eventually he would've been gone after this season.Comment

Re: Bochy to the Giants
Not even making a move to keep Bochy shows me a few things about this front office. They can attribute the Padres short comings in the playoffs to Bochy's mismanagement instead of actually aiding him in getting the right player in a position of needy (third base, Walker, Branyan? You're kidding me). To me it's an unintentional intentional scapegoat.Comment

Re: Bochy to the Giants
First **** the giants, bochy is a traitor for going there and we shall see how well he does there. It's Sandy Aldersons policy to let his employees test the waters to see if the grass is greener, apparently bochy thinks it might be, so he's going somewhere else. If you want to talk about loyalty, where is bochey's loyalty to the Padres?Comment
