Just to keep things straight. No one is saying that the scenarios are exactly the same. You made a statement dismissing the likelihood that any of the other MVP candidates would have done anything differently. But with Ortiz, he has at least shown that he is willing to stick up for a teammate regardless of the situation...and hes not even his teams captain. When has Jeter ever publically tried to call off the dogs? At least with Ortiz there is a history of this so to casually dismiss the possibility of speaking up for ARod is crazy.

On one had you have Manny who's being criticised for doing wacky stuff that isn't effecting his game. He still produces the same numbers he does year in and year out. Plus, Manny is a great clubhouse guy that all the Red Sox players love.
Then you have A-Rod, who's being criticised for putting up crappier numbers than he usually does. He's not doing anything wacky off the field or getting into trouble or anything. And A-Rod is already an outcast in the clubhouse and isn't tight with most of the team.
Situation A: A player who's a clubhouse favorite getting ridiculed for acting like an idiot, but not hurting his team.
Situation B: A player who's not a clubhouse favorite getting ridiculed for playing like crap, especially in the clutch, and is hurting his team.
Ortiz saying, "Hey, that's just Manny being Manny, lay off him." is much different than Jeter saying, "Hey, A-Rod will be okay and he's still putting up good numbers, lay off him." IMO.
Plus, as you've argued in so many other threads, we don't know the entire story. Maybe A-Rod was as standoffish to Jeter as Jeter was to him. Maybe A-Rod deserved the lack support. It gets into the clubhouse chemistry again. We don't know."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Again, I think it's different.

Re: Jeter Doesn't Deserve MVP...
I've stayed quiet on this but to say that Jeter doesn't deserve MVP because he won't hold A-Rod's hand whenever he's in trouble is just plain outrageous. A-Rod's problems go much deeper then being an oddball personality like Manny is.
Anyways I still think it's between Jeter and Morneau for MVP.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Jeter doesn't deserve it because there are better players out there, not because of ARod.

Re: Jeter Doesn't Deserve MVP...
That article reads like someone looking for a reason not to vote for Jeter rather than actually having a legitimate reason not to.
