Yeah, I do think that Dusty Baker gets to Manage the NL. What I want to know is what would happen if he went to the AL or retired.

Re: New All-Star Affecting World Series Idea Is STUPID
Maybe I'm crazy, but I like the idea. It makes as much sense as alternating it, which is dumb, too. Shouldn't it go to the team with the best regular-season record? That would make sense, but we all know that MLB stopped making sense during the Reagan administration.
It'd add intrigue to the All-Star game, and if they're not going to go by record, then it doesn't make sense anyway.
Actually, I wish they'd go by win-loss record between the AL and NL in interleague games.Comment

Going by Interleague games sounds like the best way to go for home field advantage if they didnt want to go by best record. It would make Interleague play that even more intense to watchComment

I believe baseball then chooses the manager.
If Baker went to the AL, he would not be the coach. It will probably be the next coach in line - the loser of the LCS. But it's really a baseball decision.
If Baker retired, then the same would happen. There are however, some instances in which a manager has come back from retirement to manage an all-star team. But none recently. Maybe b/c most managers don't retire or get fired after winning a championship."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. There is an advantage to homefield, especially in the world series. I think this could backfire in some cases. If torre manages the game again(and he will eventually) he'll take his whole damn team. Put the whole yankee squad out there and try to win the game almost like a regular game. Before he was taking like 8 guys about 4 of them qualified. Now he'll have even more incentive to do that. Whatever, I think they should just let whoever has the better overall record be homefield, its the most practical thing to do.

you have a good point, but i kinda disagree.
If you were the manager and knew you had a chance to make the playoffs, then wouldn't you take the best players in the league so that you can win?
If you had to choose between loyalty (kinda like the Mike Stanton pick) and a lights out reliever, knowing that the reliever could help you win the ASG and get homefield advantage in the World Series, if you make it, then wouldn't you choose the more dominant reliever?
I think this forces guys like Torre to not be so loyal and instead tell his troops, "listen, this game can decide homefield advantage if we make the World Series, so I'm gonna go with Player A instead of you."
Well i'm sure the coach wouldn't go up to the player and say that. But i'd bet that George Steinbrenner would convince Torre to go with the best players and give the Yanks some rest.
Now, my question is this. I doubt it could happen but what if a team's manager could not make the playoffs. But he's the ASG manager. And the team leading the division is their biggest rival. Do you take more of their players in hopes that they tire out? Do you use their pitchers to tire them out and hurt them? Could be interesting if such a thing happened.
Imagine the Angels are in 2nd at the All Star Break. Oakland or Seattle is in first. Does Scosia take more of that team's players to tire them out and make a push in the 2nd half? It could happen."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied.
