    Jake Peavy to Braves...???

MLB Trade Rumors: a clearinghouse for legitimate baseball free agent and trade rumors.

    Jake Peavy to the Braves?

Also from Jerry Crasnick on ESPN radio, also no link yet: the Padres are close to sending Jake Peavy to Atlanta for Marcus Giles, Horacio Ramirez and Jarrod Saltalamacchia. This would make some sense: Schuerholz has never been afraid to deal top-drawer prospects (of which Saltalamacchia used to unquestionably be, if he isn't after a weak 2006 at the plate) for impact players. And this does a lot of things for the Padres: fill their 2B hole, replace Peavy (kind of), and put another potentially solid catcher in the system now that George Kottaras is property of Boston. It also allows the Padres to keep Scott Linebrink or use him in a trade with the Red Sox.

For the Braves, it tells you that Schuerholz is going for it: one season out of the money isn't going to put him on some rebuilding regimen. I don't Peavy is enough to put them back up with the Mets, but he could certainly make things more interesting.
MLBtraderumors is usually a bunch of BS BUT they're quoting Crasnick from ESPN Radio so who knows...there may be some truth in this, I have no idea.

WOW is all I can say if it is true...I'd love this deal as a Braves fan.

      You ain't kidding.

Smoltz, Peavy, Hudson, Hampton, and James would have all the makings to be one nasty rotation.

Well apparently Crasnick didn't say this on the radio, but it was someone else...I don't know. There's a lot of rumors flying around right now and they're all conflicting, what a surprise lol.

Wow, do it. Hopefully it is true. I can see why the Padres would do it, other then losing an ace, but Salty is going to be a stud C, and Giles has always wanted to play with his bro(they did trade Barfield so Marcus can take his palce), Horacio is a decent 4th starter. Still, for ATL this is a GREAT trade, hopefully it is true.

Let me get this straight...the Padres make the playoffs...then trade:

Jake Peavy, 25, one of the NLs best pitchers, and Josh Barfield, 23, one of the NLs best rookies, for:

Prospects Kevin Kouzmanoff, Andrew Brown, Jarrod Saltalamacchia, and Horacio Ramirez, 27, who has been mediocre in the majors, and Marcus Giles, 28, who had his worst season at the plate since being a starter.

                Questionable...

Are they trying to compete or rebuild? They add prospects and get rid of two of their best players? I thought they were trying to get Barry Bonds as well?

                      They still need a bullpen

I just can't see the Padres doing this. I mean what kind of message is that sending to the fans when you trade Barfield and then Peavy? If this actually happens then you seriously have to wonder what the heck is going on in SD.

There's no way the Padres trade their ace starting pitcher for a second baseman, crap starter, and catching prospect (who regressed in 2006). Contrary to what many believe, piling crap on top of yet more crap does not equal fair value to trade for a superstar player.

Would you rather have Zito or Peavy? You're crazy if you want Zito.

No way this happens. They would have to get back a little more in return than one top prospect and two mediocre MLB players. IMO, Peavy would require a Brian McCann-type player for it to be a fair/smart trade.

I'd love for it to happen, but I don't see the Pads parting with Peavy.
