Cubs finally being sold?

I don't want to get too excited as a Cub fan. This would be the greatest offseason move we could make. However it's starting to sound like this may be a reality.

A switch in ownership would mean no more boycotting Wrigley Field for me! I feel sorry for the people who waste their money every year on this team. The Tribune has hardly ever cared about winning - they just want $$$$$$$.

This is only one group. From what I understand there are several interested parties lining up. The whole key is Trib deciding to sell by the end of the year.

Could you imagine new ownership by convention time in Feb?

I can't even think it or I'll get too excited.

I read about this in the Red Eye yesterday. The bad thing I read about was that a couple of parties from CA were offering big money for the entire lot of Tribune assets. I could deal with Mark Cuban...he is a known commodity but Im wary of anyone not from Chicago owning the Cubs.

Cuban would be a great owner. The man would definitely pony up the cash to bring in big stars and he won't stand for losing.

I wonder if this new ownership is going to keep Hendry? As many would like to blame Dusty for last seasons problems, and rightly so, some of it falls on Hendry. I would feel that if this new ownership is serious about winning then they should take a hard look at keeping this guy.

Cosign on Cuban, but anybody thats willing to come in and shake things up in the name of winning is fine by me. Stay tuned!

If it was Cuban, Id actually hope that hed be as conspicuous as he is with the Mavs. After low these many years with the Trib setting on a pile money. It would be good to see someone out front who cares as much as you.

I was hoping Ernie Banks would be the group to buy the Cubs. Now the Wolves owner wants to buy them? Wouldnt be bad, the Wolves have always done good when they were in their former league. Someone with passion like Cuban would be on the top of the list.

What exactly does a new owner bring the Cubs that the Trib doesn't already? You guys say all they care about is money...well why did they spend over 100 million dollars last season and are going to go over that again this season?

Just be forwarned. A new ownership group is not going to have the deep pockets the Trib has. They may not be able to pony up the 100 mil dollars it takes to compete. Be careful what you wish for. You do realize the Cubs outspent every team in the Central this year, right?

The Trib spends the money. It's what management spends it on that is questionable.

The Trib doesn't have deep pockets. The Cubs are their only profitable property. That's why shareholders are pressuring them to sell it to help the rest of the business.
