PITCH STAMINA bars...Why is this a STANDARD??

I just dont understand it.....We as a gaming society seem to strive for realism in our baseball games but yet we simply accept the fact that we can plainly view our pitcher's up to the pitch fatigue level in all of these baseball video games??....Yet alot of you who seem to bash the batting cursor feature in alot of games, seem to embrace the pitch stamina bar with not a single gripe to it's existence.

Listen, in other sport's games, It's totally warranted and necessary to help you gauge the energy level of your players because visual cues of their status arent as apparent but in a baseball game for a pitcher, the pitch stamina, that has become such a standard in all these baseball games, is simply an insult to the realism of the sport moreso than anything else like batting cursors, of which I find very challenging and exciting to create more specific hit variety.

But come on! Do we really need to see pitcher stamina bars??? These designers should rely on their realistic game engines to give visual cues of deteriorating pitcher effectiveness such as velocity drops in pitches, less accurate control, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, bring back the MOUND VISITS like in the days of EARL WEAVER BASEBALL....this way we can have a reason for this feature which would give us a coaches and catcher's feedback.

Make us rely more on our managerial skills and decisions in these situations rather than automating everything with a visual 'dummy' bar.

I cant believe no one since Earl Weaver Baseball has explored this area of video game baseball. I think it's as silly as having the stamina bars in boxing games!

Am I crazy??......Maybe I'm the fool but it's just too easy to rely on these bars which makes the decision process so much easier for the armchair video game manager!

At least make it a feature that can be toggled on and off at the beginning of a franchise or gameplay setting.

I say get rid of it totally and implement a mound visit feature that gives you feedback....At least that would be realistic and cannot be overused because of the 2 mound visit rule per inning in baseball.....no??

Sounds like a good idea for the hardcore baseball player. So that means there is about a 0.000000005% chance it would ever make it in the game.

That would be my though to cater to both the casual and hardcore games.

Its just a thing that baseball game developers dont pay much attention to because generally, gamers demand improvements in other areas such as franchise mode, graphics, create-a-player mode, or even in batting.

When people think of realism in baseball video games nowadays they accept the stamina bar and look to more realistic fielding, batting, ball physics, injuries, crowd atmosphere, and career modes. If developers hear more demands for pitching realism and mound visits, it could only make the game more realistic.

BDoughty, the sad thing about this is that this feature really isnt something that should cater to the HARDCORE baseball player....it should just not be available to any type of player......I'd like to know who was responsible for making this a standard to begin with....back in the Earl Weaver days, Pitch stamina bars werent in the game......quite simply you had to rely on mound visits and watch for pitch deterioration.....this is the way it should be for all baseball games except for the extreme arcade games like SLugfest , ect.

It's just a case of giving us too much vital information and takes away from forcing the player to think a little more......and baseball is game of decisions and managing as much as it is playing.

When in doubt blame EA.. I kid I kid..

When you go back to all the great NES baseball games they did not have the stamina bars.

When my ninja pitcher started getting tired I could tell by the speed of the pitch and lack of break on a breaking ball. Of course with todays pitcher/batter interface you would have to reply more on watching the speed of the pitch on the radar due to the perspective shown.

To answer the who was the first to show the stamina bar that honor might go to ASB 1999 for the N64? I did not spend a ton of time searching so that could be way off.

I went through alot of the baseball titles and movies (All Star, Triple Play and WSB) and this was the first one to mention the stamina bar and show it on the movie.

I think it's lack of ingenuity. It should be a toggle on toggle off option. in baseball you know a pitcher is getting tired because he either can't hit a side of the barn or the other team had a 7 run inning. Other than the playoffs you rarely see pitchers that are throwing well being pulled early.

Good suggsetion but we'll see it added in about 5 years.
