Re: Dodgers sign Juan Pierre
Ahh, how fast free agency has become a joke. How does a guy like that get $9 mil a year? -
Re: Dodgers sign Juan Pierre
The market is crazy this year. Whether it's Soriano, Speier, Stanton, Garciaparra, and now this. I shudder to think what Zito is going to get. After seeing what is going down, I say 100mil+ guaranteed.Comment

THE MARKET. Honestly, I guess I can see why the Cubs spent so much to get Soriano. I mean seriously Stanton got like what 8 mil for 2 years. Speier got like 18mil, SPEIER! Pretty crazy. On one hand, teams are spending. On the other, they aren't spending wisely.Comment

I dunno.
I don't think the market was quite this strong for Pierre.
Although I had heard about a 3/30 deal from the Giants for Pierre so maybe I am wrong.
It just doesn't seem logical.“Nobody in the history of the game tried what I just tried. We’re talking about on the biggest stage, in New York, playing out of position and asked to hit fourth for the New York Yankees. I mean, that’s never been done.” - Sheffield on SheffieldComment

Re: Dodgers sign Juan Pierre
From a Dodger fan perspective and the consenus from fellow Dodger fans,
this contract is absurd.
Colletti was looking for that type of player, The guys he was looking at were Pierre, Lofton or Roberts (My personal favorite) and Colletti is getting a rep here in L.A. that he will over pay to get what he wants.
Pierre and Furcal may be able to get on base but the Dodgers need a Big Bat to drive them in.

Re: Dodgers sign Juan Pierre
Pierre's OBP isn't even that great for being a leadoff hitter, only .330 last year, .350 career, not awful, but certainly not worth the contract he just got.Favorite Teams:
NCAA- University of Illinois Fighting Illini
NFL- Cleveland Browns
MLB- St. Louis Cardinals
NBA- Boston Celtics
NHL- Chicago Blackhawks
