This has been discussed ad nauseum on this board since Alfonso Soriano signed. We all get it. Salaries are sky rocketing. Bitching about it will not get you anywhere.

If you do not like how much these guys are getting paid, stop watching, stop buying tickets, stop supporting the game. That is the reason why these teams have so much money to spend - fans are spending record amount on baseball.

If you are not willing to stop following the sport, then everybody should stop complaining so much. There will be no strike. There will be no lockout. They just signed a new collective bargaining agreement and there has never been more labor peace. Get with the program, this is the way things are going to be for a while. Otherwise, pickup a bat and a ball and pray you will one day make this kind of money.

This wasn't directed at the above poster specifically, but rather the casual fans who stroll into this board and constantly act disgusted and outraged after each new contract is signed this off season.

Frankly, I just wish Schmidt amounted to something when he was with the Braves.

I agree, but this is a baseball forum so speak your mind. If he wants to complain about things he should have that right, just as you do to talk about how tire you are about hearing it!

No need to bash him now that he's gone. Yeah sure it would've been nice for him to pitch against Flordia and I'm sure he was dying too, but couldn't. Also, at the time he was one of the best pitchers that year and still in his 20's. Would you have liked him to go and risk his entire career ala Robb Nen at his prime? And if I remember correctly, Schmidt pitched a 3hit shutout to start off that series. He was also healthy for the most part of last season.

We just see it different! Sure he was great, but come on he went to LA. That is bad no matter how you looked at it! And he is a *****, he always misses start because of some injury. Especially in his later years. he had some great years for. But come 11 and 9 and he signs for that much! lol
Ok so he play a lot last year. Still 3.59 is not great, but it is not good too. Yeah I will miss Jason, but LA good riddance!

And don't give me that crap he wanted to, if he did he would have. You think Clemems or Johnson or Schill would missed that game, come on! lol

Trust me, my interest has waned over the years. I wouldn't call myself a casual fan either. Lifelong Reds fan who goes to 10-20 games a season, and tries to spend as little as possible at them. I know how it all works. I've been around a while. I know what needs to be done: it's what you said in italics. A massive revolution against baseball isn't an easy thing to pull off though.

i can hardly wait to see how welcome back schmitty goes when the dodgers visit sf, while he can still spin the odd exceptional game there is no doubt in my mind that his best days are behind him.

This is great. The Dodgers sign a pitcher who the Padres have owned recently.

Would've liked him on the team, but I think it's more beneficial facing him than having him on the rotation.
