    Marcus Giles released

Along with Chris Reitsma. Any Braves' fans know why he was released?

    Re: Marcus Giles released

He wasn't tendered a contract. The Braves are up against their $80 million cap, and couldn't afford his $5-6 million salary.

There are supposedly other "clubhouse" related reasons for the move. They tried to trade him, but evidently couldn't find a taker.

Yeah, being non-tendered is different than being outright released, but I guess essentially the same thing. I wonder if we're going to try an dresign him.

Too bad, I really like hearing Bobby yell "Come on Gilly" from the dugout step.

Wonder if Boston would give him a look...?

Damn this sucks. He had a off year last year but he is still a solid ball player.

He's nothing special but I'd certainly take him over Pedroia/Cora. I'm still wondering why we didnt re-sign Loretta.

I just hope he doesn't sign with the Mets. That would seriously suck.

I would expect the Padres to go after him pretty hard. They need a second baseman and he could play with his brother.

Same I'll be surprised if he doesn't wind up in SD.

Shocking. Maybe not to a Braves fan but I'm surprised. I think Giles is a nice player who had a bad year. As a Sox fan, I'd love to see him in Fenway but the Red Sox seem committed to Dustin Pedroia and I think he is a player worth giving a look so I doubt Giles would end up in Boston. Now if either he or Pedroia could move to third and Lowell could be shipped out, that I would support.

I just can't understand how the Braves couldn't get ANYTHING in return for Giles. He had a down year, but still, someone should have been willing to trade something in return for him.

Surprising to an outsider like me. Giles has that throwback quality that I like. He plays hard and gives it his all from my perspective.
