The Yanks basically got nothing and the Backs got a pitcher that's old, has back issues and isn't even very good anymore.

But it IS the NL. Anyone could take that wildcard, so pitching never hurts. They better pray that Unit stays healthy for the whole season.

I disagree that the Yanks got nothing. First, they save about 14 million or so. Second they get a decent, serviceable reliever. Then they get a pair of 6-4 pitching prospects and supposedly all-field, little hit shortstop. They are building the farm system back up and improving the vibe of the clubhouse--No Sheff, no Unit, welcome back Pettitte. Very happy to get this for a guy who is 43 with the knees and back of a 60 year old. He's good, but he is very brittle and has not learned to pitch with his declining stuff.

I see alot of guys thinking Randy will do well are west coast guys. I pretty much saw all of his starts for the Yanks. Sure there were a handful of games he was really good. But, there twice as many times when he had zero life on the fastball and a flat slider. Hopefully he regains his stuff in Arizona.

Ok now can sometime tell me why this trade was made??? Not a fan of either team just curious why the yankees trade their #1 pitcher do they think they will get Roger Clemens or something, How does this help the yankees now towards winning a world series??

Sure the NL make work out for a lot of pitchers but Why does everyone just hate On the NL so much...If im Right didnt the Cardinals just win the World series and there in the NL right?

Looks like a good trade for both teams in my opinion.

Johnson has not been even close to our best pitcher the past two years. He has aged quite a bit. He even cost the Yanks the playoffs 2 years ago when he bombed against the Angels. They have Pettitte, Wang, Mussina, Igawa, and then the 5th is up for grabs between Pavano and some kids. Cashman is restocking the farm system. Clemens is a possibility but he is not needed.

This is a good move for the Yankees. I think they may take a step back in 2007, but once Hughes becomes accustomed to the major leagues, look out.

For 2007 though, that starting 5 of: Wang, Mussina, Pettite, Igawa, and ??? looks pretty damn weak. Who's the last starter? Humberto Sanchez?
              Carl F'n Pavano?

And the Yankees will still win the AL East in 2007.

It could help get Clemens, but this year Randy Johnson would have been our #4 starter at best.

They're still a team built for the regular season and don't have the pitching or defense to win in the post season.

Good trade for the D-backs. Unit will respond to not being under the scrutiny of the harping New York media and fans...along with not having to face the offensive juggarnauts in the AL East. None of those prospects are world beaters and middle relief is easier to find than solid rotation guys.

Gotta disagree slightly on defense. Outfield is solid, not spectacular. They can all go get it...and if Melky stays he's a good d-replacement for Matsui. IF is solid with Menciewicz (I will have to learn to spell his name), Jeter is solid and ARod, hopefully, finds his form. Cano doesn't kill the defense. The defense is adequate and definitely championship worthy...Much better than in the past couple of years.

The rotation is ok. Let me ask you this...How many teams have a better rotation? There are not many. I may give Boston a nod if the Japanese guy is good. Besides Schilling, there are questions about everyone else. Fact is their top 3 are as good as anyone in the league, not dominate but competitive enough to keep them in the game. Igawa, I think, will be solid his first go around because of his lack of being seen. After that, it's a crap shoot.

Middle relief is easy to find, but not quality middle relief. Middle relief is so unpredictable. One year they are lights out, the next they have a 6 ERA.

Middle relief can be found at the deadline. What you need to worry about is your stars coming to play.
