    Congrats to Gwynn and Ripken!

    Ripken on 98.5%
    Gwynn on 97.6%

BTW Big Mac only got 23.5% of the vote.

I think that makes Cal the 3rd highest % ever? Behind Seaver and Ryan if I'm not mistaken.

I can not believe that Gywnn and Ripken got that much of the voting because I really thought this would be the year for Gossage to get in...but, he just missed...with 71.2 %

          Speaking of can't believe....

It's a damn travesty and a shame that Jack Morris hasn't even gotten close to the needed votes. I wonder if it's his sour disposition toward the media that has caused this to happen?

Yeah his ERA is high but he had the most wins of any pitcher in the 80s and he averaged 8 innings per start over his career! "sigh"

I think next year is Jim Rice's last chance before he gets removed from the ballot. It looks to be a pretty weak class for next year so it might be his best shot. He was 63 votes shy this year.

You're right. I just saw it on ESPN News. Gossage barely missed again. He was 21 votes short I think Ravech said. Gwynn and Ripken deserve every one of those votes. Big Mac with only 23.5 percent, the steroid era questions in the Hall of Fame begin. Gossage is on ESPN right now by the way.

I'm thinking we'll see Gossage and Rice in next year or one of them at the very least.

Would you happen to know who the main competition on the ballot will be next year?

not off the top of my head but it's no one worth mentioning as a HOFer.

Damn, I was hoping for Blyleven or Morris to get in. They both deserve it IMO.

Tim Raines and David Justice are the top first timers I think.

I think they said the only real competition next year will be Rickey Henderson...Oh just a little something else since McGwires numbers were thrown out that he got 23.5...well Jose Canseco got 1.1%..SOMEONE actually voted for him..............

Re: Congrats to Gwynn and Ripken!

It is ridiculous that Jim Rice didn't get into the Hall again.

The worst part is, the writers that are saying his numbers don't stack up to modern numbers are the same writers that say that the modern numbers are inflated, and they subsequently don't vote in McGwire. Make up your mind, the numbers are either comparable or not, you can't have it both ways!

                              My ballot:

                              Gwynn
                              Ripken
                              Rice
                              Gossage
Morris (if for nothing else, his amazing Game 7)
                              and...McGwire

People forget that McGwire broke no established rules. I blame baseball for ignoring the problem of steroids, not McGwire for (allegedly, although he did) exploiting the lack of rules. I also condemn the writers who turned an obvious blind eye to the problem in 1998 and lauded McGwire, only to demonize him today.

Hall of Fame voting needs a serious overhaul, just like the Veteran's Committee received. Honestly, baseball writers are the worst people to have vote on a Hall of Fame. If anyone has every met a baseball writer, most (that I have met) are spiteful leeches that would rather vote a good interview into the Hall over a curr with great numbers. Couple that with the fact that they have this over-inflated sense of ego to go along with their "gate keeper" status, I would just as soon keep writers away from the most honored part of the sport.
Overall satisfaction also makes the decline!!!!!!!!!!!!
