He may of had less K's then Howard and Chase but I bet if you look at what he did with runners on base or when the phillies needed a big hit he didn't put up numbers.

His approach at the plate is beyond horrible. Any pitcher who throws him anything on the inner half of the plate should be released by his team immediately. When Pat played college ball at Miami, Pat actually used the whole field and sprayed the ball around to the tune of a .350 average, with pop. But over the past few years, Pat has decided to try and pull everything about 100 feet directly over the LF foul pole. Sitting on an inside fastball occasionally when the situation warrants is one thing, but Pat tries to do that on every pitch.

Which is why what Sully said is accurate....throw him breaking pitches to the lower outer half and he'll wave at them every time. If he went with pitches and used the opposite field he'd be a much greater threat, but he refuses to do that.

I hate Burrell because in one of the baseball games for PS2 a few years ago they used "Burrell" as announced name for "Buehrle"

Everyone picks up on that...Burrell has said he is doing it his way because he has too many people in his ear. If the guy would just keep 2 hands on the bat and take it to right occasionally he could hit .280+ and would still have his power numbers. He has tons of ability, but he is one of the streakiest players I've ever seen, and when he is going bad, he is horrendous.

That said, when they didn't get Soriano during the offseason, I'm glad the Phillies didn't panic and overpay for Carlos Lee and dump Burrell for pennies on the dollar. Burrell is very capable of putting up the same numbers as Lee (who I saw up close for a few years while I was in Chicago), and I think Lee is a candidate to eat himself into mediocrity now that he got the big deal.

I don't boo Burrell every time he comes up like some around here do, but I was certainly not complaining when he wasn't playing at the end of the year. It would also help him greatly to give the appearance of caring occasionally. The Philly fans like the guy who hustles, and if they perceive you aren't giving it your all they will never give you the benefit of the doubt.

Well, here's hoping he gets off to a hot start, or it's going to be a long summer listening to Philly sports radio.

I don't boo Burrell every time he comes up like some around here do, but I was certainly not complaining when he wasn't playing at the end of the year. It would also help him greatly to give the appearance of caring occasionally. The Philly fans like the guy who hustles, and if they perceive you aren't giving it your all they will never give you the benefit of the doubt.

Honestly, that right there is my biggest gripe with him. It's one thing to stink and not put up the numbers that are expected of you. But to do it while not caring, that's just not acceptable. After his breakout season when he completely went into the tank, the fans tried to pick him up through that whole season. Standing ovations when he took the field after he did anything positive at the plate, the works. Philly fans are tough, but we tried to pick him up that year and he's repaid us since with an uncaring attitude towards the game and the team.

That's why you get booed now, Pat.

He has the most hollow stats of anyone in baseball. I've never seen the man come through in a big situation.

i watched maybe 130games this year

and yes he sucks with guys on base but

he sucked at one part of hitting but killed in almost every other stat that matters and like i said before done bring up K's b/c our young guns have bigger problems with K's
