    Braves finally sold

Time Warner Inc. has reached a deal to sell the Atlanta Braves baseball team to Liberty Media Corp. after more than a year of negotiations, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday.

The deal, which must still be approved by Major League Baseball, would involve Time Warner transferring the Braves, a group of craft magazines and $1 billion in cash to Liberty in exchange for about 60 million shares of Time Warner, the Journal reported, citing an unnamed person familiar with the deal.

Based on the closing price of Time Warner's stock Monday, the market value of those shares would be about $1.27 billion.

Hell of a deal by TW seeing as they didn't seem to be interested in the ballclub anymore.

I wonder if Liberty Media will be as tight fisted as TW has been the last few years.

Ted Turner has lost all his loves little by little with this TW deal from 2000.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Liberty Media has reached an agreement with Time Warner to buy the Braves.
Negotiations have been ongoing for more than a year now, and it was clear that a deal was close. Liberty Media's chairman is John Malone, who has before never owned a professional sports team. There's reason to hope that he'll up the budget from where Time Warner's been lately, though it seems doubtful that Atlanta will reemerge as the NL's top spender anytime soon. If Malone wants to make a strong first impression, he could make a big bid to extend free-agent-to-be Andruw Jones. Feb. 12 - 8:06 pm et
I imagine they'll spend a few more shekels than what TW has been lately, but not a whole lot.

Fox 5 news in Atlanta said the deal still has to be approved by the owners and MLB. Nothing has been said, whether or not Liberty Media will spend more money, or less. They also said, Liberty Media would more than likely sell the club within a year.

This somehow or another gives Liberty Media a tax break. That's really the only reason they purchased the team. Hopefully after Liberty Media sells the team the Braves will get an owner willing to spend money.

I think they have to wait something like 2 years before they can re-sell the team, but yeah, that's pretty much what's expected... I'm not even thinking about them raising the payroll, I just hope they don't lower it significantly.

70 games are scheduled for TBS this year. Next year could be a different story though.

That sucks!!! I remember when they used to carry about 100 or more each year.

I'm almost positive that I heard that next year the games will be significantly reduced on TBS and eventually TBS will not be showing Braves' games exclusively. Basically TBS will show baseball games and not just Braves' baseball games.

They're going to a broader schedule in '08... the Braves will be just like any other team on TBS.

They'll also have some playoff games starting this year.

Gee last year it seemed like there were maybe 30 Braves games on TBS. Back when I believe it was around 90 or so. 70 is a very good number for this year then, assuming it's all Braves games and nothing else.
