Will Oliver Perez ever come back to form?

Just when you think he might have control again after going seven innings, one run, five hits, no walks, and six strikeouts in a win against the Braves, he follows that up with a seven walks in 2.2 innings in a loss against the Phillies.

Will he ever go back to 2004 form? He is still only 25 years old.

He's been tainted a Pirate. His career is doomed and he should be visiting Dr. James Andrews within the next 6 months.

I think the better question is "will he ever be back on steriods,".

yeah I think the few years where the kid was money was a fluke... And like Sully said, this is probably his true form we are seeing now-a-days.

He has no consistency in his delivery, so I don't believe that he will ever have that consistency with his pitching. Plus, he is doomed to have arm troubles because of his lack of consistency.
Overall satisfaction also makes the decline!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nope. He's just way too inconsistent in his mechanics. I think he had 1 season where everything went right.

Has he regained his velocity? During 2004 he was often hovering around 94-95 and occasionally would kick it up to 97-98 when he was trying for a K. Last few times I saw him pitch, he rarely broke 92 MPH. Velocity isn't everything, but when you have little control as Perez has, it sure does help.

He must still be feeling the effects of Greg Booker i.e. the worst pitching coach ever.

What's more amazing is that he's had a few starts in a row with very few walks. Those are the statlines we saw in 2004 when he was with Pittsburgh.

I guess the Mets staff got his mechanics to be more consistent as that was his problem in Pittsburgh (and I don't doubt the Pirates staff at that time had a negative effect on him).

nah... this will be the rest of his career... crap games mixed in with some good... the guy will never be ace stuff imo, probably a 3 or 4 guy the rest of his career.

Yeah you could say that about 95% of the pitchers in the league. He will probably never be a #1 or #2 guy, but considering what the Mets gave up for him, it has been worth it so far.

No doubt, but the thing with Perez is, at least IMO, that at any moment I feel like he could implode and go back to walking 6 or 7 a game. He's got great stuff, but without great mechanics that stuff easily can turn into walks because he can't consistently find the strike zone.

Trust me Perez will frustrate you like you can't imagine..As a Pirate fan that guy would drive me nutz, he has filthy stuff but has about 15 different throwing motions, neither he nor the batter know where the pitch is going.....I remember when he was throwing 95+ a cpl years ago when he had his one good year, I just kept thinking of that scene in Major League where Vaughn knocks the head off that fake batter during spring training...Thats Ollie, Have 1-2 games or even a lil streak where your like "OK this guy is starting to get it"..then the bottom will fall out & he will have a pitch count of 70 in the 3rd...He's very talented, yet can't get it under control...Although as a Pirate fan & since I was a Ollie supporter I was happy for him when he had that great game last year in the playoffs...It was good to see him shine in National TV game that was also very important...It showed he can be dominant, sometimes he just needs a lil motivation.....He will prolly end up being one of those "what if" guys who will bounce around for awhile & have some great games, but nothing like what he shoulda/coulda/woulda.....Although it is a good living.

Oliver Perez's whole problem isn't just his delivery from watching him in SD and hearing things...Perez's problem why he never stayed consistent was the fact he never wanted to follow what the pitching coaches had to say to him.
