Re: Like sands thru the hour glass...Carl Pavano is on the DL
Agreed.
In his time in New York, he never had an ERA below 3.5. And that was 4 years ago. He showed signs of slowing down last year, he wasn't lasting nearly as long into games, averaged less than 6 innings per start.
I don't think he'd be anything more than a 6 inning, low-mid 4's era pitcher in the AL. Not worth nearly the money he's going to command.
That said for the Yankees and Red Sox he would probably be worth signing. He'd be one of the 5 best pitchers on both teams, and they can both afford him, so for a one year deal there isn't really a big negative. I don't think he'll be a savior though.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

If we managed to make it through last year, this year will be a piece of cake by comparison. People are acting like Moose and Pavano are going to miss two months. The rotation will most likely be at full strength a month from now."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: Like sands thru the hour glass...Carl Pavano is on the DL
The main problem for the Yankees hasn't been their pitching though. Their defense has been god awful this season except for the Minnesota series. All 4 runs they gave up on Saturday were unearned and 2 runs that scored in the 1st inning yesterday were a result of Jeter's error. It doesn't help that the Yankees don't have much range as a team with Jeter, Cano, and Abreu having poor range, but now they can't even field the balls that are hit directly to them.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment
