Re: Oh Happy Day Rewritten for Jackie Robinson?
I am not racist in any way, shape or form but I am glad the whole Jackie Robinson Day is over. Of course, he had a HUGE impact on the game, but I got sick and tired of turning on ESPN to see the same crap over and over again.
Honor the guy and get it over with. The song though, they went way too overboard. They rewrote a religious song like that, should've just rewrote Amazing Grace.
All in all, I'm glad it's over, HOPEFULLY.Comment

The song was corny and too long, but it's a corny song to begin with. It seemed to please Mrs. Robinson, so I say mission accomplished for that choir.
I thought it was a good production. Wish I could have stayed awake to hear Frank in the booth though I did catch Aaron. MLB and ESPN got this one right.Comment

Re: Oh Happy Day Rewritten for Jackie Robinson?
I'm just going to have to disagree with you guys on this one. People are putting Jackie up on the same pedestal of Jesus Christ by making those changes to that song. I'm not arguing that Jackie wasn't an important person, I'm saying that the importance of Jesus to his religion far outweighs the importance of Jackie Robinson -- BOTH to Baseball AND to Civil Rights ALL ACROSS THE WORLD...that should tell you something.
So you'll have to forgive me if replacing Jesus with Jackie Robinson in a religious song about Jesus is just a little too much to swallow.
Another thing I heard after the game kinda irked me, as well -- they said Jackie Robinson was the most important man of the 20th century....
wait...what?
More important than Malcom X?
More important than Martin Luther King Jr?
I have to disagree with that assertion as well. I feel these ceremonies were done in poor taste and could have been done much better.
The feeling and meaning behind the ceremonies was spot on, and I have no problem with that. I have a problem with the overall execution of the ceremonies, and poor choices that were made that negatively effected my view of the day.Comment
