The NL East, three team race?...
The Braves, Mets, and Phillies were all very busy this off-season. I really don't think there is a clear cut favorite to win the division. Obviously I don't expect the Marlins or Expos to contend for the NL East title. Still, this divison should be fun to watch.Tags: None -

I think it'll be the Braves again. Mets stink hardcore and the Phils still have a bullpen capable of blowing every lead. -

Barring any major injury to any of the major players, I think I see all 3 battling at least to the all-star, and then one of them will melt down. Leaving 2 of them to battle btwn 1-4 games near each other till the end.
I think the favorite would still have to be the Braves until someone proves otherwise.Comment

Re: The NL East, three team race?...
I really don't see the Mets contending for the East at all this year. Yes, some of their players cannot possibly perform as bad as last year (mainly Alomar), but they still have way too many holes. If the Marlins' pitching can keep them in games, I would venture to say they may finish ahead of the Mets.
It looks like a 2 horse race between the Braves and Phils. I am going to take a wait and see approach on the Phils, though. If, and it is a big if, they put it all together, their lineup is going to be murder. Their bullpen has got to get better and everyone needs to gel, though. They almost remind me of the mid-90's Oriole teams who went out and spent a ton of money only to fall on their face. The Phils have younger players than the birds did, though, so it just might be their time. I can't wait for the season.Comment

A wait and see approach is a good way to go for the Phils. Not only is their bullpen still weak, but Rollins, Abreu, Burrell and Thome all had over 100ks last year. Thats a lot of Ks..Comment

Everyone seems to forget that the mets were in contention to make a 1st place run until the allstar break last year and they were in first place until the beginning of may, after the break Piazza was playing injured, rey ordonez had to have a body double to get in and out of the stadium so he didnt get sniped, jokers were overdosing on pot in the parking lot, they looked at jeromy burnitz as a "go to guy" This team needed a role model last year. They needed the yankees to come out to the ballpark and talk to them about drugs. well the yankees never showed however they got their role model in Art Howe. the certified burnitz as a scrub so that wont cause any confusion now. Alomar is ready to be a NY athlete now, Piazza is healthy now, Mo Vaughn is back into shape and ready to conquer the world, they got rid of the man the myth the legend Rey Ordonez,They have a hot new rookie coming up this year in Reyes at short, Cliff Floyd is going to do single handedly what they thought cedeno and burnitz would do last year, and forget about pitching, with the addition of glavine the mets have a braves caliber pitching staff. The Mets will win the eastt his season and Philly will get gang banged like the eagles and the fans can demolish the vet forget about construction crews. The Braves were a team of the 90's their momentum carried them through the first years of the new millenium but their day is over, i pick the Wild card will be between the Phillies and the dodgers. lol, relying on Piazza, Mo Vaugn, and Alomar is reason enough to believe they will suck again.Comment

Re: The NL East, three team race?...
The Mets did bring in Tom Glavine and Cliff Floyd, that's gotta count for something. But the Mets still need another starting pitcher and a true lead-off hitter. Also, I think the time may be coming for the Mets to move Piazza to 1st/3rd base or the outfield. Don't get me wrong, he still swings a powerful bat and drives in plenty of runs, but his defensive play behind the plate is starting to decline.Comment
