Actually, it could. Calling Ankiel up would make him out of options, meaning that he couldn't be sent back to AAA Memphis unless he cleared waivers first. If we call him up and he doesn't perform... we're stuck with him, or we lose him for good.

P.S. I don't think the Cards are done, but as an aside I find it funny that a Reds fan is saying that

He only said Percival and Ankiel was not going to help the Cards turn things around, which if you have any sense at all that is correct.
He did not say the Reds where going to win the World Series!

Actually, I think they could. Moving Percival up to the 'pen could allow Ryan Franklin to move the the rotation. With his ERA around 2.00, I'm sure he'd do just fine for himself in the rotation. Combine that with Ankiel possibly hitting .300 with 20 HRs, and the Cards could make a run, who knows.

        P.S. Your signature's interesting, I don't think I've ever heard that before

Sorry, I can't help myself around Reds fans.

Apparently sarcasm is a second language to some people.

I'm aware that calling up Ankiel leaves the team out of options with him if he doesn't play well, but how long are they going to keep him in the minors? Until he's 30? 35?

And hey, I never said anything about the Reds being good. I'm very aware of how bad they stink this year.

Ankiel needs more ab's and he actually has 21 hrs.

You must think that Ankiel has been an outfielder his entire career.

We just moved him to the outfield a few years ago. He needs more experience in the field and at-bats everyday.

If we brought him up, he most likely wouldn't get much playing time, instead of playing everyday at Memphis.

I hope Percival can make it to the majors. We desperately need help in the bullpen as it is now very taxed due to the poor outings by the starters. We'll take all the help we can get.

You mean he hasn't been an OF his whole life? No way. I mean, it's not like I watched the 2000 NLDS or something...

And being the big Cards you are, you should already now that Percival is in the majors. His contract was purchased from AAA Memphis by STL yesterday.

Well its not really easy going from being a pitcher for you entire career and then switching to an outfielder and being major league ready at that position in such a small amount of time.

It takes time to learn a position that you may not have played for a long time, or ever played.

The Cardinals don't want to rush it. That and the fact that he wouldn't have any options if he came up, and the lack of playing time he would get. All those factors made the Cards decide that this is not the right time for him to come up.

And as for the Percival situation. I had looked on the Cardinals website real quickly yesterday and he was not on the roster as of then. So I assumed that he hadn't been called up. Sorry I don't spend all of my time watching the Cardinals transactions.

Looks like I've touched a nerve with the Reds fans. Something about completely and total ownage recently must have something to do with that.

Percival made his first appearance in today's game and ended up with the win. He pitched a perfect 7th inning and struck out one batter.
