And most importantly he's a Met.

He's a nice utility outfielder, but the most underrated player in the league? I find that hard to believe.

        Chopped liver.

Lowell's prety underrated as well, though he's struggling defensively this year, which is what he is best known for.

Youkilis, though, has just been lights out. As Cam said: 20 game hit streak, 8 straight multi-hit games...he's been a key to the Red Sox success this season.

He's getting his chance to start right with the injures we have to the ooutfeild, I wish they would just keep him there, he can do well starting, I hate when people say he can't play everyday thats not true, I believe he can.

People say that, because when given the chance to play every day, he was not very good.

I actually like the Placido Polanco pick. He's produced everywhere he's been and has been pretty important parts of the teams he has been on.

I also think Edgar Renteria (not because he's a Brave) fits into this mold. Aside from his abberation in Boston, he's been VERY consistent and has never really gotten much recognition for it. Let's not forget the 1997 World Series..

I always thought Chirs Capuano, especially last year, was wicked underrated. Whenever I got a rare chance to watch him he was so impressive. Don't know about this year though, haven't seen him throw yet.

Scot Shields has been underrated the last few years just because he is a set-up guy and not a closer, but he has been the most dominant set-up guy the last few years.

Not underrated in the true sense of the word, but Aaron Harang led the NL in strikeouts and wins last year and did not win the Cy Young. That's the first time in NL history that's happened.

As for underrated players, here's some off the top of my head:
                    Yuniesky Betancourt
                    Doug Brocail
                    Scott Hatteberg
                    Frank Catalanotto
                    David DeJesus

Tied for the NL lead in wins, with the Cy Young winner. Bit off-topic, but Webb was the right choice.

                        Easy answer: Travis Hafner

I bet over half the people in the country don't even know who he is. He's one of the top 5 hitters in MLB and up there with Albert Pujols, David Ortiz, Manny Ramirez, and Alex Rodriguez in terms of the numbers he's put up over the last 3-4 years.

Seems like every team has one of these players. Last year for the Phils it was Chris Coste. This year, it's Greg Dobbs.

Is he underrated or just under-exposed? Pretty common for ballplayers on the west coast.
