Same argument used by Jeter nuthuggers whenever someone dares to say something about him without strapping on the kneepads first, even when it isn't necessarily negative. (you'd think fans of a team with dozens of championships wouldn't have an inferiority complex)

You (not just you) do realize that it is possible to be a great player and still be overrated? Ichiro hits a thousand singles a year, a quarter of them being infield singles, never walks, and yet the perception is that he's some sort of offensive juggernaut.

And for the record, I didn't say he was overrated, just that he's more likely to be overrated than underrated.

All I know is he is a career .331 batter and is one of the best outfielders in the game.

Ichiro is neither overrated nor underrated.

Now, if he played in Boston or New York, he might be closer to overrated.

Erik Bedard. Dude never gets any love from anyone, yet he currently leads the league in strikeouts and had a great year last year and emerged as our ace.

Youkilis is the underrated, along with teammate Hidkei Okajima. Adrian Gonzalez is underrated as well IMO.

Hillenbrand also stole home some two years ago for the team, I guess he's underrated too huh?

Nothing against Aaron Hill, he is indeed putting nice numbers as a second basemen, but I still think Alex Rios is more underrated than he is.

With that being said, neither player is the most underrated player in this league.

                        Top 5:

Brad Hawpe - .293, .388 obp, on pace for 25 homers, 105 rbis.
Matt Morris - 2.56 era, on pace for 16 wins
Jeremy Guthrie - 2.57 era, .92 whip in 73.2 innings
James Shields - 3.30 era, .97 whip in 103.2 innings
Troy Tuliwitzki - 22 years old, on pace for 8 homers, 71 rbis, but has a .985 fielding % and 113 putouts at shortstop (most at position) in 552.1 innings.

I think the most underrated team is the Rockies. They have a .990 team fielding %... good enough for best in the league.

The thing with that list is that I see it not so much as a list of guy who are underrated as a list of guys who are having good years. Morris for example - his ERA+ this year is 163; over his career it has been 114; as for Guthrie - he is (I think) 27 and has had half a good season; Shields is younger but again has had about half a good season. They're guys who have exceeded expectations so far this year but I wouldn't say theyre underrated in the way I think most people would think of it, which would be people being underappreciated year in and year out.

sad to say, a lot of guys on teams not named the Yanks, Sox, Cubs or Dodgers are under exposed and underrated.

my homer picks r J. Bay and Tom Gorzollany.

though he's still a HOFer, one of my all time underrated players is G. Maddux, especially when ppl compare him to Clemens.
compare their stats, especially in the post season.
an interesting read on Maddux- http://www.thebaseballpage.com/colum...mes/040803.htm
