    OK, I just checked this, and his contract does expire at the end of this season, but he is arbitration eligible, meaning the team that acquires him (or the Rangers, if they dont trade him) will have some control as to where he plays next season, by taking him to arbitration. Thus, Texas could conceivably ask for more in return for him, because he isnt simply a "rental player"
    Only if he accepts arbitration from said team. Which, he probably will not since he will be one of the premiere hitters available this winter.

      Next year will be his 6th year. He doesn't have a choice until after next season.

        exactly.

        He isnt eligible for Free Agency until after NEXT season. Unless the team he is on declines Arbitration
