Re: Have a feeling.....Yankees
Whether you like it or not, we as Red Sox fans would be taunted non stop by fans of all other teams if they fail to win the division and fail to do well in the playoffs. This is a massively bad choke job regardless of the circumstances (injuries, law of averages, bad luck, whatever your reasoning may be).
I don't like it any more than you guys, but claiming that it's not a big deal if they do not win the division is similar to an ostrich burying its head in the sand. There's no doubt about that, and I am already hearing a ton of **** talking from non Red Sox fans, and they haven't even fully blown it yet. What has happened in the last two weeks is bad, no matter how you rationalize it.Comment

Re: Have a feeling.....Yankees
It's not my fault that MLB made winning the division a lot less meaningful by introducing the wild card. As I said earlier, I couldn't care less about the division if the Sox just fall on their faces in the playoffs. It's not a consolation, it's worthless. At this point the only thing that matters is seeding. If you want to sit back and care about the division, fine, that's your business but I sure as heck don't care. Just take 1995 as an example, the Sox won the division then and were promptly bounced from the playoffs. Do you get warm and fuzzy inside thinking about that season? I sure don't.Comment

That's what I'm worried about too. They've looked very flat at times recently. Fortunately, getting hot come October fixes all ills.Comment

Re: Have a feeling.....Yankees
One thing that keeps getting overlooked is that the Sox haven't had Manny in the lineup for more than 3 weeks or Youkilis for a week now. When you lose a combined 36 HR's and 187 RBI's from your lineup and replace them with 9 HR's and 35 RBI's you're going to struggle. I love what Ellsbury is doing but he's not Manny Ramirez.Comment

Re: Have a feeling.....Yankees
Things are looking bleak for the Yanks in the east. I saw that Manny Ramirez played last night so the Sox are picking things back up again. If the Sox manage to hold on, it will be well deserved because they played the best throughout the season.
I'm glad Torre didn't go balls out with the pen last night in an effort to win the division. He could've burned out Vizcaino, Joba or Mariano. I've always thought Torre's handling of the bullpen arms in the past was his biggest weakness as a manager, most notably the way he turned Tom Gordon into a walking corpse for the 2004 playoffs.
I am NOT relishing the prospect of facing CC and Carmona in 4 out of 5 possible games though.Comment

Re: Have a feeling.....Yankees
It'll be interesting to see how Okajima and Dice-K perform in the postseason. They've both faltered a bit down the stretch as this is the first time they've had to carry the load of such a long season AND the pressure of playing in Boston on top of that.
