Wow, I have a bet with a Red Sox fan at work that the Yankees wont make the playoffs. He's absolutely paranoid of the Yankees coming back. Im not saying they wont but Im putting money on pitching (or lack thereof).

Great series for the Yanks...they HAD to sweep or they would've lost any hope of winning the division. It's still a long shot but it's looking a lot better than it did 3 days ago.

What's up with Joba getting thrown out of the game? He didn't even hit the Youk. Did the ump even issue a warning after the first pitch? That's just good pitching if you ask me.

So, it's good pitching when you make a mistake pitch that sails 3 feet over a batters head?

He wasn't trying to hit him, wasn't trying to brush him back, shouldn't have been ejected....but damn if that is what Yankee fans consider good pitching....

haha...well, the first pitch I honestly believe just got away from him. Obviously I don't know for certain but it's hard to fathom why he would try to hit him with Ortiz on deck. But after the first one "got away" Youks kinda glared at the mound. That's where the intimidation factor comes in. The rook won't be intimidated. So he didn't plunk him...he just threw it over his head. If Joba wanted to hit im, he would've hit him.

EDIT: Ortiz wasn't on deck. I still dont think he was trying to bean him.

Trying to stay calm about the 5 game lead. Even when the Sox had a 10+ game lead, I knew that the division wasn't locked up. Becuase I know better. The Yankees always make a August run.

Yankee pitching made the Sox look stupid in the series. I'll give J.D. Drew $70 million in Monopoly money if he actually looks like he gives a **** when he strikes out.

That series could be the most important three games they play down the stretch. Anyway, on to fun with numbers...

              Team ERA (AL, season):

              1st - Boston - 3.71, 515 runs allowed
              8th - New York - 4.56, 634 runs allowed

Team ERA (AL, since AS break):

              2nd - Boston - 3.60, 169 runs allowed
              10th - New York - 4.94, 241 runs allowed

I seem to remember some posters claiming that New York's pitching was much improved in the second half and that the guys who were once again healthy would make big contributions. Not so much. They've been just shy of allowing five earned runs a game since the break although most of that has been in August. They were pretty much league average in July.
I liked our league average pitching in this past series. Of course, it means absolutely nothing if it goes back to those numbers you posted. Our top 3 are as solid as anyone's, Hughes is 21 and will be inconsistant and who knows about the Moose/Kennedy spot. It'll be interesting. All in all, this has been the most fun Yankee team in years and definitely the most likeable.

I never thought i'd want to say this but I hope the Jays get swept by the M's so it'll make things a little harder for the Yankees to get the WC spot.

Now that's some dedication to the Yankee hating cause.

Absolutely! I knew you were going to say that...you are 100% correct with that, but I'll take the wins anyway. Now, if they could only beat Tampa Bay.

favre4evr, the Yankees aren't going to win the AL East so what are you gonna do? (See page 1).

While I don't concede yet, I did say somewhere on this thread that I would let the guys who took me up on the challenge choose my avatar for a certain period of time.

I'm open to suggestions. I will definitely "pay up" if I am wrong.

Plus, I would love to see the bigger dagger put into the Nation with an ALCS victory over them!

The Yanks absolutely have to sweep this weekend to have a prayer at the division.
