OK, I do understand that and how the situation could easily have ballooned up and turned into something big, but I guess I'm putting myself into the situation and saying, "if I was innocent in the whole thing and someone intentionally hits me with a pitch, what would I do?" I don't know if I would've done the same thing as Renteria, but it probably would have crossed my mind.

But anyways, I know I'm coming off bad here and I sound like Blzer trying to defend Bonds, so I'm just gonna stop.

Umps stink.. they think they are "da man", & seem to want to confront players & managers.. El Duque got the boot when he lost control of a pitch that hit a pitcher, some player got ejected 2 nights ago just for talking to his manager.... they need to have some sort of attitude adjustment..

Only way I could have seen Lilly being tossed is if a warning was issued at the start of the game to both teams (during lineup exchanges).. But for Soriano to get hit a couple of times & nothing done about it? crazy...

Yes, clearly the average MLB umpire never learned through his long years of amateur and minor league experience (with far bleaker major league prospects than the average player) that it's a good idea to have as perfect a game as possible. [/sarcasm]

How anybody can write a sentence like this when you probably just have to sit through one Little League or high school game to see how quickly abuse can roll in from the bench and stands over even just one controversial ball/strike call is beyond me.

Agreed. Thats always been the players way of handling things themselves. An eye for an eye, and then move on.

I really don't disagree with what Hudson did. It should have happened the at bat after Soriano hit his third homerun. If Soriano wouldn't have stood and admired those three dingers we wouldn't be having this discussion in the first place, and this is coming from a lifelong cubs fan.

But what happened on Sunday was a disgrace to the game on both the homeplate umpires and Renteria's part. Any serious baseball fan watching that game should have known someone was going to get hit in that game, and I applaud Ted Lilly for what he did. Like chippered said that has been around forever. You hit my player, and I'm going to hit a player of equal talent.

Renteria should have acted like a man and just jogged to first base. He has been around long to know that was going to happen. Instead he takes a cheap shot at the second basemen for no reason.

As for the umpire, I just think the guy got caught up in the moment and overreacted. Fine the guy and move on.

Renteria on the other hand. I think he should be fined and suspended for atleast 5 games. Like another poster said before, that is as bush league as it gets.

Don't think for one second that Pinella or the Cubs will forget about this incident the next time these two teams meet.
