      Re: Cursor batting

I personally think that cursor based hitting is good, but far from great. For anyone that has played baseball (not just through videogames), timing the pitch and getting the bat on the ball is what it's all about. When you face guys that can bring the "heat," you have very little time to decide to swing. In fact with good pitching, you often need to "pick a zone" (except with two strikes where you're just trying to stay alive) and look for something you can get your bat on to succeed. This is very difficult to replicate in the games we play on our consoles. If facing Randy Johnson, I should have just a short bit of time to decide on whether I am going to swing or not. For those of us who aren't as fast with the controllers, it makes it very difficult to get the cursor to that exact location. Some may say "that's good, just like baseball." I just like the approach of trying to hit a good curve and slider, hit the heat, guess right on the changeup, etc. I don't like having to have my cursor in the exact spot as well. When I played baseball, I picked the bat I was using, both length and weight. With these games, I can't pick a bat, just need to use their cursor. So I want the game that will account for ratings as well as having the cursor built in as well. I look at it as either hitting it off the end of the bat, breaking the bat, hitting the sweet spot, or missing totally. I guess it's a hybrid approach. Sorry for the rambling.

One of the things that i think is going to stand out in MVP, and this is something ive read in several hands-on reports, is that inj order to suceed you have to look for a pitch in that particular players zone otherwise it just wont be a good hit. Ive read several people say (?) that it makes it much more realistic. I think thats something that should be incorporated in a ball game regardless of whether or not there is a cursor

Like aiming a gun in like Area 51 put the cross-hair on the target hit swing.

I personally don't like the cursor hitting. I think that it is unrealistic as can be. Hitting is really seeing if the ball is a strike and reacting on timing for me. I played 4 years of college baseball and i am still playing summer ball 2 years after and that is what hitting is all about to me. See the ball and react, not move my aim all over the place and try to hit it. That being said though, if a game would actually create a pure sim of hitting most of us would hit around the ol mendoza line.
