He's having an amazing year but he was bound to make a mistake at some point with how many fastballs he throws down the middle. I don't think he took Vazquez seriously at all.
In Texas you take everyone seriously. My grandma can rake in Ameriquest.

And their great years aren't comparable to the season Putz is having. At this point he is having probably the 3rd best season for a closer behind Gagne and Eck's MVP seasons.

And you're correct, closers come and go every year, which is probably why no one is making HoF claims for Putz. We're simply enjoying his great season.

He threw a bad pitch over the plate and a guy with little pop got the meat of the bat on the ball in a hitters park. It happens.

I was at the next game that JJ closed against the A's and he looked like he was still ticked about it. Came in with two outs in the eight and struck out four A's hitters, with none of them coming close to touching him. Pitched again last night against the Angels in a save situation. Three up and three down and blew the high cheese past Vlady Guerrero.

Since blowing the save against Texas, JJ has faced eleven batters, struck out six of them, hasn't given up a hit, and has notched two more saves.

What's up with JJ? Where did the splitter go? He's looking very human lately and I've noticed he's barely using his splitter anymore. JJ w/o splitter = 2005 JJ Putz...not good!

I think I'd rather have Shields and K-Rod.

He's pitched four of the last five days. They're overusing him. I thought they were nuts when they brought him in with a four run lead against the A's. They don't trust anyone else to pitch the ninth unless the M's have a 5+ run lead. That has to change.

I understand he's overused, but he was having difficulty at the beginning of that stretch of games as well. For some reason he seems to be going away from the splitter lately.
