It seems like the field for the HR Derby shrinks more and more every year.

      Waste of time.

...And some of the best tend to not participate altogether. Reminds me of the Slam Dunk contest.

Well considering that bonds got in the ASG due to the Giants fans rigging the online vote i'm happy. I do think Griffey should be there tho. I'd love to see him in a home run hitting contest again.

I'm sure they'll stick with the original format of 8 contestants, we haven't been told otherwise. It looks like a very good field as is though, and I'll put money on the Prince.

I think Bonds is scared of losing/disappointing

Wait...what? SF fans hacked into the MLB.com servers and changed the voting results?

They're both old. The HR Derby is a lot of swings and takes a lot out of you. It has also been blamed for damaging some players' future hitting. I don't have a problem with any player who would rather take advantage of the opportunity to rest up so that they can help their actual teams more during the actual season.

I still think the lineup is solid. Fielder has been the best power hitter in the NL this year, Howard and Morneau are the reigning MVPs, Guerrero has always been a big time slugger, Magglio is off to the best start in baseball this year, and Cabrera has incredible power to put up HR numbers in a big pitcher's park.

                          I hope Albert gets there...

If not, I'll be rooting for Morneau.

I wouldn't go that far as to say the vote was rigged (unless it was rigged by Selig) but Bonds did make it because of the Giants fans and that is why he SHOULD participate in the HR Derby, backing out is like spitting in the face of his fans. Saying that it's too hard on him physically is b.s.,i don't care if he's 42 or 142 he should be there.

Is it me or is the Homerun Derby starting to follow in the footsteps of the NBA Dunk Contest circa the early 90's.
