I can't believe Lincecum is getting so much press. The guy will tear his arm up within a year or two, but then again, we're talking about American media. *sigh*
What exactly do you know about our club? Why you even made this thread is beyond me. We're in last place not because our pitching is bad, but because our offense is the worst in the league bar none. I don't see why you're bashing a kid you've probably never seen before tonight. He's been docked as The Franchise by some Giants fans because quite frankly, this team has nothing else to be excited for. Oh, and coming from a Cub fan like yourself, I thought you'd know better with the whole mechanics thing and that making your arm blow out. Prior was PRAISED for having one of the best mechanics in the game. We all know what happened after that.

As a Giants fan, I can see why you're frustrated. But, could you slow down and explain what you're talking about in regards to Lincecum? My point is the overhype is exactly what happened to Prior and Wood! They said Prior had perfect mechanics, and then he failed, ala almost every other up and coming star pitcher.

Your post seems to agree with my point that Lincecum is being hyped up just as much as Prior was. The only real difference is some have learned from the previous failures, already criticizing Lincecum's delivery. Did I misunderstand your post? I mean, if you're trying to prove there's already criticism toward Lincecum, then why would you accept a nickname like "The Franchise"? I know your team has very little else to root for, but jeez.

There's no doubt Lincecum could be great. So could've every other starter I listed earlier. There's just next to no chance he will be; this coming from someone who respects the advice of Mike Marshall. If you don't agree with his philosophy, then it'll be hard to agree with me. Either way, I certainly hope the kid can maintain the success. Oh, and he's on my MVP Baseball Cubs Dynasty as a reliever, so I like the guy!

Nah, I'm not saying Lincecum is overhyped specially not on something like ESPN, the world wide network of the eastcoast bias. He has all the tools to become an ace down the line and showed that when he had everything working against the Diamondbacks striking out 12. The fact that he dominated the minors the way he did brought him to become the #1 pitching prospect ahead of the likes of Homer Bailey and Phillip Hughes. When you mentioned his arm dying out, I figured you meant because of his 'violent' delivery in which I gave you a link on how it actually works.

Also, unlike in Chicago's case, we have a very conservative manager in Bochy who likes to protect his pitchers. There won't be any string of 130+ pitches start after start like what happened to Prior in 2003. Not saying he couldn't do it, it's just stupid and probably cost Prior his career. Another up and comer that has had arm troubles is Liriano. The Giants let him go that easily for that reason. Really though, pitching regardless of how hard you throw is not good for the body and there's a risk for everyone.

The minute Lincecum reports anything about his arm Bochy will make sure that he gets the necessary rest for it. After dealing with Adam Eaton and other young pitchers who flamed out because of 1) Bad pitching coach Greg Booker and 2) Overworked, he handled Jake Peavy carefully (hence why Jake Peavy would occasionally miss some time the past several seasons).

Lincecum will rarely go over 100 pitches knowing Bochy... he manages for the season, not one game irregardless of how the team is doing.

                      Re: Cubs Giants Series

Remix, I see what you're saying now. It is my philosophy (look up Mike Marshall's site), that no pitcher today throws safe enough to avoid injury. I hope Lincecum has that rubber arm that gave Maddux, Clemens, Zambrano, and other injury-less starters the benefit of the doubt. I just don't believe it's physically possible for a short person to throw 100 and survive for more than 5 years in the majors. The pitching mound has been lowered too much for it to work long.

Pitch counts mean nothing. All they do is delay injury, though of course throwing too many pitches (200 or more) would be silly. 100 is no magic number.. just an easy way for the MLB to avoid scrutiny. They were warned about Prior and Burnett, but the MLB ignored the warnings because they wanted money, not the time required to change their deliveries to safer mechanics. If the MLB and its franchises do not care, there is no hope for pitchers.

Anyways, I hope we're not here talking about Tim's shoulder / elbow surgery in a year or two.

Well I guess that was some mighty fine strategy by mister Bonds, take a three game break, then hit two bombs in one game. Amazing. Talk about breaking a slump.

Wow, the Giants hit 3 HRs while the Cubs hit none and the Cubs still win. Im really liking this novel concept of stringing together basehits. Im sure it wont be long though before someone complains that the Cubs arent hitting enough HRs.
