part of it is probably because there is a large selection of sims and only one arcade style baseball game. i would like to know the combined sells of the sims against the lone arcade style. that would tell you how much people like this type of terrible game.

I'm an elementary school teacher and I can tell the reason why arcade games are so popular kids. I have learnded that most kids (there are some exceptions) have a real short attentions span and little tolerance for things that have a steep learning curb. They don't have they pateince to voluntarily sit down and develop strategies, run plays in basketball, manufacture runs in baseball, read zone defenes in football like mature gamers. Kids want a game that they can open up and be successful with right away. Add in some over the top plays, disproportionate player models and some flashing lights and you have a best seller. I guess that why you can't watch cartoons on Saturday morning without being bombarded with anime of some sort.
I remember when I bought Nba Street when it was released. It was fun for awhile, but after while it got real simplistic, repeatitve and boring to me. I gave it to my 14 year old sister and she still plays it religiously and claims that NBA2K3 is boring and slow and stupid.

I think the lack of appeal of arcade games to some is simplier then laying it's appeal on attention span deficit or lack of education or patience/discipline. I don't think the current sports arcade games are that good.Blitz and Slugfest are no good. NBA Street had/has promise if they'd work around the stupid Tony Hawk angle.NHL Hitz is the only standout. I'm curious to see what they do with NBA Street and NBA Jam this year. If they ever made a really GREAT football arcade game it would be bought by everone.

Maybe it's because arcade games require less thought and strategy to play them. A lot of people don't have the patience/time to delve into a sim game and they can get their quick fix by playing an arcade game. I don't mind the occasional arcade game to give me a break from a sim type game for a change of pace.

I've never been a real fan of arcade games. Never. Even when I was small. A reason for young or whoever to get into games like that is b/c they might not be a real fan of the sport. I'm sure even kids who play little league would rather play a sim instead of a arcade type game.
For example, my boy likes games like Blitz and Hangtime and he really does'nt watch Pro games on tv. He claims he does but I know he does'nt. But this is my opinion so I cant speak for all. I remember when I was young and I watched NBA games and MLB games as well as play them on a regular basis, I would rather have asim game to create myself to see how I would play in the Pros(video game wise of course).

And to add another point, the ppl who made Slugfest a top seller are prolly the same ppl who make thier player on a sim game with all 99s.
