That's probably it. I'm not old enough to remember. Because what I remember of McGriff was 25HR and 90 or so RBI.

I'd still say though if Teixiera plays for a long time and does what he is doing now, he will end up a better overall player.

McGriff is probably one of my top 10 favorite players, so I guess that's why I hold him in higher regard.

One of the few Major Leaguers in history to hit 30 HR in 8 straight seasons and also he had atleast 19 HR's in each season for his first 16 years in the majors.
NCAA Vets League: Arkansas Razorbacks (9-2, 6-1)
MLB OS League: Seattle Mariners (9-2)

I'm pretty young, so I don't his young'n days. He came up when I was thinking about writing it, and i'm like "no he isn't the type of player Teixiera is" but as I looked at his stats, he had longevity, and was extremely consistent.

Now that we're educated on McGriff back on subject. So the Rangers got a good catcher, a minor league SS with a high ceiling (Arias redux) and some arms. None of which are Harrison, Reyes or Harmon. Anyone have any insight on the arms the Rangers received? We've manage to now unload our starting All-Star, Gold Glove first baseman and starting centerfielder and have received only one starter in return (Salty), and no one who looks like they'll help us next year 'cept for Salty.

If you manage to swindle the Cubs out of Pie, then you're fine.

Reading around it sounds like Harrison could be the second pitcher if his shoulder checks out alright.

Pie's not ready for a fulltime position in the outfield right now so the Cubs opted to demote him. If the Rangers send over Laird who would start over Kendall and then Benoit who would be their top long reliever for a guy who they aren't using. That's hardly swindling since they're set up to win immediately.

It's swindling because Laird is a complete bust who handles his position much worse than Kendall can. We already have Kendall, Hill, Soto, and Blanco in our system, so to take away our top prospect for basically a block job at catcher is what I call a steal. The Rangers give up basically nothing for a guy who will shine in '08. Do you still disagree?

Nice... I'll get to see Tex iplay in person this Thursday and Friday when I go to Atlanta. Hopefully this sparks something in the team.

Great deal for both teams. The Braves are no joke and rumors are flying that Dotel is on his way too. (Rotoworld had this--too lazy to link it).

Rangers get a nice package with one guy to help them right away in Salty. Hopefully this opens up some more deals.

I was just watching YES Network, Mike and the Mad Dog. They had Dave O'Brien from the AJC and he said he loved the trade for both teams. His impressions are that Salty has a chance to be a superstar, and the pitchers the Rangers got, although a couple years away, can throw heat. Andrus is great defensively, just hasn't started hitting.

Very even trade, but that's why everyone loves doing business with John. Even though they gave up loads of potential, Teixeira is one of the best young bats in baseball. Would have liked to see CJ Wilson in the deal instead of Mahay since the quality of prospects behind Salty are so high, but in the end, they got their guy.

So does Andruw walk now for sure? Guy's my favorite ballplayer ever, but even I know he's not the same in center and his numbers this year are inexcusable.

His chances of staying are better now that he is having a "down" year but I still think he is gone. Dave O'Brien said he really wants to stay, and that new ownership will up the payroll by 10mil, but I just don't see him staying.
