Re: Waiver Trade Rumor Thread
If the Yankees want to get rid of Kei Igawa, they have their chance.
The Padres, continuing in their attempt to upgrade their starting rotation, have claimed Igawa off waivers, major league sources told FOXSports.com.
San Diego was awarded the claim on Friday, and the two teams have until the end of the weekend to work out a trade for the 28-year-old Japanese pitcher. If no deal can be worked out in that time frame, Igawa would remain in New York for at least the rest of the season.Last edited by bravosfan; 08-10-2007, 05:55 PM.Comment

Re: Waiver Trade Rumor Thread
Sadly, I doubt they trade him, unless they get something of value of return. The thinking is he only makes $4 million a year, and that's cheap for even a back of the rotation starter.
I don't think he'll ever even be that though, at least not in the AL East.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Yep, don't see any trade happening with the Padres and Yankees. Yankees will probably try to pull a fast one on the Padres, but the Padres don't need a struggling pitcher making a few millions... wait we had two of those already.Comment

Re: Waiver Trade Rumor Thread
Casey Fossum becoming a free agent today could have some impact on how much the Padres are willing to give up for Igawa. The Padres want a lefty to replace David Wells and while his ERA is horrendous as a starter (7.89) Fossum (3-5 as a starter) will cost practically nothing to sign.Comment

Re: Waiver Trade Rumor Thread
According to GM Jim Hendry he has "probably claimed a dozen guys this week" and this is no different. Earlier in the week the White Sox had claimed Miguel Tejada but the Orioles pulled him back when a deal could not be reached.
I don't really see Stewart or Podsednik helping the Cubs in Soriano's absence any more than Matt Murton or Felix Pie could but we'll see if Hendry can get something done with either player in the next couple of days.Comment
