I would have loved it if some of the runs we scored tonight spilled over to the last 2 games we've played. It seems our run support is always given to the wrong pitcher.

That's our offense for you. JP's offense. Build a slugging team, either it scores 15 runs a game or its one-dimensionality dries up and goes on a drought every other game.

That was just a good hard slide, and if he didn't touch the base he was very close to it. He was certainly frustrated afterwards that he didn't get there in time to break it up, and I'm sure part of the play was he was unhappy about being thrown at, so your right, he wasn't completely okay with being thrown at, but I don't think you can say he overreacted either.

Well it was a good hard slide, but that rule has been inforced. It may not be a rule anymore, but it was back in the 90's. I remeber seeing it being enforced once or twice, when I was at a game and thats why it sticks out in my mind. I remember Joe Carter taking that slide hard into second once to break up a double play, he was wide off the bag and never got a hand on it and they ruled it an automatic double play.

You do have a point that ARod was close fairly close to the bag but still he was sliding with ill-intention, not out of the good for the team. I dont ever recall him doing something selfless like trying to break up a double play and then getting visable upset when it fails. But I will say your right, he did not overreact

I dont know if I can belive that. If someone tried that to him while his team was up in a tight game I could see him getting pissed.

I think he was most upset because he thought that since the Jays never threw at him when they played in the Bronx he was in the clear. And he did know it was wrong, we all saw that smug look on his face afterwards. You just dont do that kind of stuff, if it was not frowned upon everyone would do it.

As a Jays fan, I like the fact they got at him twice. The first time they missed and I belive it would have been done, but after the hard slide and his demeanor I guess the Jays felt he had no remorse and decided to do it again. I agree throwing twice at ARod is harsh, but he obviously did not get the message the 1st time. If I recall he did sit out today, so someone got the point this time.

Personaly I am hyped to being going to the Sept 13th game v. the Yanks. I got the seats as a gift and I cant wait to see how tense it gets. We all know the Yanks will be in the thick of a playoff race. If the Jays are or not, they will have no problem playing the spoiler role.

The homerism in this thread is awesome.

        On both sides.

I love throwing talk radio on during the day sometimes. The Red Sox fans who call in are the biggest bunch of Negative Nancy types ever and the Yankees fans set new records in terms of rationalizing.

Here's what the Yankees have done since the All Star Game (how they did in each series and that team's current record - I'm too lazy to do their record at the time of the series):

          2/3 from Toronto (57-56, 3rd)
          3/3 from Kansas City (49-63, 5th)
          2/3 from Chicago (53/60, 4th)
          2/3 from Baltimore (52-60, 4th)
          3/4 from Kansas City (49-63, 5th)
          3/4 from Tampa Bay (43-70, 5th)
          3/4 from Toronto (57-56, 3rd)
          3/4 from Tampa Bay (43-70, 5th)

So they've basically spent the last month playing the worst teams in the league (15 games against last place teams and another 3 against a White Sox team that might as well be in last). I would expect them to do pretty well, their offense is good enough to carry them to some degree.

          The Red Sox:

          1/3 from Anaheim (66-47, 1st)
          2/3 from Seattle (62-49, 2nd)
          2/3 from Baltimore (52-60, 4th)
          2/3 from Tampa Bay (43-70, 5th)
          3/4 from Cleveland (64-50, 1st)
          3/4 from Chicago (53-60, 4th)
          1/3 from Kansas City (49-63, 5th)
          2/4 from Toronto (57-56, 3rd)

They played six games against last place teams and ten against first or second place teams. It was a bit tougher of a run. They've got a relatively easy scheduling coming in as well minus a few games against the Yanks and Angels. They have a lot of games against Tampa who they've historically beat up on (despite the perception).

A lot of people (I'm not talking fanboys either) were talking about the Yankees making up some ground after the All Star break because of their schedule. It happened but the Sox gutted out a decent stretch as well against tougher opponents. It's helped that the Yankees bats have caught fire recently too and that just isn't something they can realistically sustain.

we raised our SLUG from .439 to .465

and we have beaten Roy Halladay, Gil Meche twice, James Shields twice.

Our offense just needed a jumpstart, but you can't deny what our offense could do at any moment this season.

During that stretch we had five 10+ run games... we STILL have 16 on the season, which is good for 2nd behind the Detroit Tigers' 17.

The Yankees also lead the MLB in games in which a team scores 7+ runs with 48 different times. The Yanks have won 44 of them. The Tigers have scored 7+ 39 times, and have won 36 of them.

Our offense KILLS... this stretch may have proven to give us a boost, but we are still a force to reckon with that Anaheim, Boston, or any other team should be very afraid of.
Basically what you're saying is that your offense has been hot. The thing about hot offenses is that they don't stay that way forever. The Yankees have put up a .949 OPS since the AS break with a .324/.396/.554 line. Good luck keeping that up for much longer, and once again keep in mind who it was against. Halladay hasn't really been himself lately either and I wouldn't go around bragging up beating up on James Shields or Gil Meche too often either. Geeze man. I can't wait for the "they just didn't want it this year" chorus when the offense falls off for a week or two.

we have tied the Tigers for most 10+ run games... I don't think we are cooling down any time soon...
