Pretty old school uni's. They are trying to win!
So you want him to be a fan of a team that tries to win but either underachieves or when given the chance almost always ends up in heartbreak?

    Sounds like Montreal South

Brooklyn had an attachment to the Dodgers nothing like Montreal had with the Expos. They moved because the city wouldn't support the team. The Nets are moving away from New Jersey but I'm still going to be a fan of the Brooklyn Nets because I understand that Jersey wasn't supporting them.

I remember having to do this for college football. I liked a bunch of teams for specific players (Marshall for Byron Leftwich and Penn State for, of all people, Curtis Enis), but once they left, I was stuck. I ended up picking Florida, I forget why though..

The only advice I can give you though, if you'd like to stay sane for the rest of your life, don't become an Orioles fan.

I actually tought of becoming an Orioles fans last year...because they were the only team to vote against the tranfer of the Expos to washington (I know..if they would have moved elsewhere they would have votes for...)

The only reason they did is because Peter Angelos is the greediest (and worst) owner in sports, and he knew that the Nationals would take away some of his precious money..He was worried about that, yet Jim Beattie was ruining our chances for Carlos Delgado and he does nothing about it.

Trust me, spare yourself the frustration.

Nothing is as black and white as it seems tho. Montreal DID have a very strong hardcore fan base of about 20-25k which is about the same for quite a few teams. Also let's not forget that for close to a decade the Big O regularly had crowds of 40 and 50 thousand people in their glory years.

Now by the very last years the hardcore base frittered away due to frustration over team ownership and management. Lauria had promised the city a cozy 30 thousand seat stadium in a better part of Montreal but he pulled the plug on it for some reason.

Montreal also regularly had 40k crowds for opening day for the last 5-10 years of the franchise's time there so there were people interested in baseball but like I said frustration, a crappy facility that was falling apart and ownership that didn't really want to keep the team in Montreal drove the fans away.

So to dismiss Montreal's fan base due to the last 3-5 years makes it seem you can't see the forest for the trees.

                    Just received a fourth response.

                    Frome the Arizona Diamondbacks

                    here is the message:

                    "Hi ,

I would be happy to send you some information on all the community events the Diamondbacks participate in each year. If this is something you are interested in please give me your address and I will send them to you.

                    Thanks,"

                    Well...at least they responded....

You'll have to work harder then that for me to give the Marlins 2 points ...because of Jeffrey Lorria and David Samson...

While he was the "owner" of the Expos, he did everything to try to move this team (there were no television or radio broadcasts of the Expos for a long time).

And, if you guys are trying to "sell" me your team, don't spend too much time talking about the players ...I know all the players already, and most of them won't be with the same team in 2-3 years anyway.
"Sell" me the organisation, the city, the relation with Montreal and the Expos etc.

As a fan of the Marlins either a) they win and you're happy or b) they don't and the owners lose money and you're happy because of that. Now this is win-win.
