I just got the game earlier tonight and played it for a few hours. Here are my first impressions after diving into franchise mode and a few games:
1) I dislike the menu's they have, call me stupid but I don't feel like tilting my head sideways to read what the menu on the left says. This got me really annoyed and started to hurt my eyes after awhile.
2) Gameplay is better than I expected which is a relief. The whole pitching and hitting physics are great. I love this pitching method after having ASB the past 2 years. At times it seems a little slow but I just have to get use to it all. I'll have to fiddle around with the camera angles for fielding to give me the best edge while playing.
3) Franchise mode is well done but could've been better. There are almost no 'cheese' trades by the CPU which is great. The minor leaguers feature is awesome and had me trading for a Cardinals stud pitcher who should be developing into an ace in a few seasons. I can see that I'm going to get hooked come spring and summer time.
4) Sound isn't as bad as people make it out to be. The only gripes I have is that they should've added more sound effects for the menus. In-play wise, I really don't have a problem. Commentary is good but I know that after a few weeks of playing it, I'll get bored at that part of the game.
5) Graphics. To me, they look almost identical to those of HH 2k3 on the PC last year. The new animations kick *** but get lag at times. The crowd looks ridicously wrong, lol. The stadiums look good but somewhat cartoony. Players faces look pretty good if you ask me.
6) Some careless bugs in such menus like rosters. I go under the Majors-Pitching category and it gives me all the batting guys. And vice-versa. Also, in career mode they shouldn't force you to go through all the teams just to check your own teams stats, etc, out. It should bring you up to your own team right away, but I guess thats a minor thing to worry about.
7) I've played on Pro and All-Star, each 1 game. All-Star was harder to hit on and still the highest amount of runs I was able to get was 1. Over time, I should be getting better. I played with the Mets both times. The 2nd was a game against the Braves in Atlanta. We were down 1 run in the Top of the 9th with runners on 2nd and 3rd and 2 outs. Cedeno is at the plate with the count 2-2 and strikes out against Smoltz. UGH! Damn, I must get more patient at the plate, lol.
8) I simmed a little of my franchise and the scores were ridicously high. 11-3, 12-5, 9-6 were common scores of games. Ofcourse, lower scores did show up. Oh well, gotta take the good with the bad.
At first I wasn't sold, but the gameplay is just great for me. No doubt that once the real season gets kicked off, I'll get hooked. I'd give it a 7 or 8 out of 10.

Great post Empire. I too don't like the menus very much. Because of my weak will I buy all the baseball games every year, and I have found that with HH especially you have to play it for a while to truly appreciate what it has to offer. I am not saying it's better than any other game, just that it takes time to appreciate the game.
