Re: High Heat Sightings and First Impressions here...

I'm sure they know and are in anguish.

It's incredibly difficult to make significant improvements and additions to a game (as High Heat has done) in a year and find all the new bugs. It gets to the point where every time you fix a bug, you create two more. If you don't have a ton of kick-*** testers working lots of OT, you're going to ship with some nasty stuff (I remember in 2K2, the 2nd baseman couldn't catch a pickoff throw unless he was super-fast, for example). And when your livelihood depends on getting your game out first...well, you get the idea. It's not a case of laziness or carelessness (I don't think so, anyway), just one of those crappy things that happens once in a while.

I hope 3DO decides to release a fixed version. In the meantime, I'm going to play the Franchise mode.

Re: High Heat Sightings and First Impressions here...

I have read at least seven posts in the forums about the pop up bug and is a HUGE bug and apparently fairly common and is probably the worst bug ever in a sports game. I have been a huge fan of High Heat Baseball, but if this problem is present in the XBOX version then I will have to choose another baseball game, maybe WSB 2K3, ASB 2004 or MVP.

i find it hard to believe that a bunch of testers - who are getting paid for this - cannot find an obvious bug like this with extensive playtime. it's not like this is subtle or anything.

no excuses.

Re: High Heat Sightings and First Impressions here...

It's not that simple. They may have been giving the testers new versions every day or two, and maybe the bug slipped in right at end when something else was fixed. The testers spend that one or two days they have doing the "test plan," which is typically a checklist of stuff like:
- Load every stadium
- Check to make sure home and road uniforms show up properly
- Check every option in the game to make sure it does what it is supposed to
etc.

It's very possible that they just didn't get the bug to happen. It's also possible that the wrong version got duplicated, or some other weird thing happened that screwed things up when it was too late to detect the problem.

I would be laughing my *** off if this kind of thing happened to EA, because they always sell a ton of copies and don't deserve to at all. High Heat's always been the David to EA's Goliath, and it's catered to the gamers that EA just ignores. They've stuck with their philosophy, while EA just tries to appeal to the lowest common denominator, whatever gets them more sales.

You raise some good points FatPitcher. As a software engineer, i've seen things like this happen. The logistics of development->QA->development->etc... can get quite complicated.

But this is a console game, that cannot be patched. A mass recall is expensive. There should have been a final extensive test on a "gold" CD. This error has been reported enough in the first day that it can't be that rare, and should have been caught. And now it has the potential to be very damaging to their sales and reputation. Let's just hope that this issue can be resolved quickly somehow and we all get put it behind us and enjoy the game.
