Re: high heat gets a 8.1 over at ign

The only thing I would like is to see where Im pitching the ball, thats really it. I would like to see a ball, with a red circle (or a color that stands out, and is not "soft") that represents the zone where the ball will probably be thrown and as the pitcher gets tired, the Outer circle gets bigger. Some players zones would be bigger than others, dependent on their control.

    Just my thoughts.

marino: Its not that i dont trust them, and the same guy didnt do the review from last yr. Actually, all 3 PS2 vers have had different reviewers. I think the RPG guy and the mailbag guy did the review. Anyway, i always think you have to take in context the previous game, esp in sports games. If the 2004 is better than 2003, you have to aleast give it the same score, if not a point better. Giving it a lower score without explanation is not really "fair".

the throwing zones is intriging. also the throwing meters on mvp could make things interesting. a meter that would cycle faster(harder to pinpoint) for tired pitchers. i guess you could go on and on about the possibilities.

Reviews aren't a measure of the absolute quality of a game. A large part of the score is how the game compares to its competition. If the competition improves greatly and your game doesn't, your score will go down.

Another part of reviews is the publisher. If it's a big name publisher with a lot of clout, scores will be higher because the magazines want to get exclusive content from those publishers. That's one reason EA games get high scores (Gamespot-Triple Play) and 3DO games never get a break.

Also, different reviewers have different tastes. WSB2K2 was a mediocre game (at best) and got a 7.7 at Gamespot, and WSB for Xbox, which was much, much better, got a 7.4.

I think it would add a new dynamic, sorta like in MVP. But youd be able to "see" what would happen before it happens. Since youve still gotta do the click thing in MVP, I dont think you'd really know how off target pitches can be. I still like MVP's system (thats y im picking it up), but something like this could really change pitching in BB today.

The HH2004 review at IGN is as bad as most IGN reviews.

"Of course, you can change the direction of the ball by moving the directional pad in different directions, but it's somewhat difficult to tell where you're aiming since there's not an onscreen cursor or rumble-based hint system to tell you when you've left the strike zone."

If you cannot understand where you are aiming with the High Heat pitching model, then you are a moron.

"Pitching and batting are all time-based"

                        Wrong.

"Another bothersome tidbit is the game's definite lack of challenge. An easy victory almost every time out, beating the computer on the default difficulty setting is pretty much a foregone conclusion. "

That is why there are different levels of difficulty. If you can beat the hardest level easily then a game may not be challenging. That is clearly not the case and that is why this comment is absurd.

I think FatPitcher hit the nail on the head in regards to the HH04 review. Since 3DO is basically a company with very little resources and not many great games it's obviously going to get the shaft when it comes to it's crown jewel.

On the other hand this could mean good things cuz if the HH04 rating dropped then that would probably mean that the other titles have stepped up big time this year.

The review sounds fair and unbiased. It basically sounds that the game still needs work. I mean they are saying that there is a ton of missing player animations and screen stutter. That alone is reason enough to knock the score down. I have seen the game in action and some of these issues seem valid. Personally, I hate that big circle that goes around the player you are controlling. How big of a circle does one need to know who they are moving? Well, I am sure none of this pleases the High Heat fans including myself, so the best advise is to get the game yourself and then make a decision.
