While I agree it's pretty stupid, the "True Yankee" thing has never been about stats.

It's about being an unselfish player who busts his *** every second he's on the field, play the game the way it's meant to be played. That's why A-Rod was so hated for his bitch-slap move in the ALCS.

As for the Brosius thing, he won a World Series MVP as the 9-hole hitter. Not too shabby.

I hate ESPN.
I'm a diehard Yankee but I don't understand the media calling players true Yankees. Do they mean home grown players? Plus, this came from ESPN. ESPN is like Paris Hilton. Everybody knows who they are, but no one cares what they have to say.

The "true Yankee" stuff is absolute garbage. Every time I hear it on ESPN or hear it from some mouth-breather at the bar I cringe. At this point I think it's even worse than the "dirt dog" stuff in Boston a few years ago. The pink hat crowd in Boston is getting scary big though. Not a good thing.

To me it's an egotistical belief that stems from Yankee fans believing that they are the epitome of the baseball sports market.

Bingo, at least recently. It's like there's this sense of entitlement radiating from the band wagon Yankees fans. I think it's the band wagoners too who are the loudest, most obnoxious, and least knowledgable too.

Someone else in this thread mentioned hearing a guy say they would prefer Brosius instead of A-Rod I think? That's an incredible thing to want. I'd like to see the Yankees lead the Wild Card right now if they had the below league average hitter that Brosius was for his few years in NY instead of the best hitting in baseball at third base. While I'm on Brosius, was there ever a more over-rated player? He had a career year in 1998 and then was a statistical disaster after that. He hit in the clutch a little bit though so Yankees fans fell in love with the .307 and .299 OBPs he put up in '99 and '00.

As for me, I don't care if a guy is snorting coke in the on-deck circle and stiffing charities in his free time so long as he produces well enough to justify his existence.

For all the sh*t he got over his time in the Bronx I hope he goes to Boston. I also hope the Sox and their fans and Boston media are smart enough to appreciate his tallent and not ride him on every stupid thing.

That said, I still think hes a first class A-hole!

If ARod leaves the Yankees i think he will head back out west where the media and the fans are much friendlier than the are in the east.

Eh, David Eckstein won an MVP Award in the World Series and that doesn't make him the best shortstop in baseball.

Anyone can win the MVP Award if they have a solid 4 games under their belt which is what Brosius and Eckstein had.

I'm going to doubt it but I would welcome his production. I have no problem hating the guy for being a jerk and taking every one of his HRs for the next few years. Lomb loves the longball.

Who cares. As long as A-Rod ever does well, his team suffers. There was a great article on ESPN once called the Ewing Factor that rings true here.

Didn't work for the Rangers, though. They stunk equally with and without A-Rod.

2003 - Rangers record in last year with A-Rod: 71-91
2004 - Rangers record in first year without A-Rod: 89-73

FWIW, they did have a one year bounce-back. Their pitching staff in 03, the last year with A-Rod, was an abortion and probably responsible for their stink. In 04 is was a lot better (and still awful).
