I liked him and that whole Cardinal team. Half the damn team were switch hitters : Coleman, Mcgee, Pendleton, Herr, O. Smith.

Don't forget Oquendo. Clark was the only righty in the whole lineup. (with Van Slyke and LaValliere).

Grand total of 58 HRs in 1986, Van Slyke led the team with 13. Won't see a team like that again.

I forgot about Oquendo and Vanslyke. But they were a speed team for sure. Perfect ball park for that team too.

You know if Palmer isn't healthy and Young stays hurt all year the Tigers might struggle to get to 58 homers.

Tito Landrum?! There is a name I haven't heard in a while. Thats cool that you're related to him. My godfather was supposed to be Joaquin Andujar, but my mom did not approve of his temper. I just got his name for my middle name. I guess it worked out for the best since he kind of dissapeared after he got traded to Oakland. I did talk to him on the phone last October though. He is still One Tough Dominican!

Tito Landrum indeed. Actually, his name is Terry, but he went by Tito. He played a hell of a Series that year too. Many say he would have been MVP if Kansas City hadn't come back.

I loved Andujar. I met him a couple of times in the Cards lockerroom with Tito. In fact, he autographed my baseball glove. Him, Ozzie, Willie McGee, Andy VanSlyke, and Tito are all on my old little league glove.

Re: Vince Coleman... A Stud or a Dud?

Unfortunately, Coleman's career was plagued by an unpredictable hamstring which hampered his chances of ever catching Rickey Henderson's record of 130 steals in a season, a Busch Stadium tarp machine that stole an opportunity for a 1985 World Series ring, and a blown call at first base in Minnesota that took away a 1987 World series ring. He was however a two time All Star, and let it be known that Coleman holds the all-time professional mark for stolen bases in a single season with 145 for Macon of the South Atlantic League in 1983. He also holds the current MLB streak of 50 consecutive stolen bases without being caught, and the MLB rookie single season record of 110 steals in 1985. If a rookie outfielder did that in this day and age of 24-hour ESPN coverage 7 days a week, he'd be on the cover of every major baseball publication and the subject of millions of hits on google.

He may not have known who Jackie Robinson was, but he knew how to cause trouble on the diamond for opposing teams

"You can be the fastest man in baseball, but not be able to steal a base unless you can analyze the pitcher." - Vince Coleman

I agree. There was a span of like 4 years where he was incredible. That guy had insane speed.

Vince Coleman changed the game based on his speed? More like Maury Wills changed the game based on his speed. The period between Jackie Robinson and Maury Wills was pretty good but Wells really brought the base stealing aspect back in vogue. I hope jake44np realizes that now

As for Coleman he was amazing for a brief period of time and in that time period he was the prototype of the type of top of the order guy that basically every team had for a while.
