It's THE worst in history. I mean how can you have a 7 game lead with 17 games left and choke it all away?

They are by far the most disappointing team and there's no way anyone can sugarcoat what happened.

There have been worse collapses. Ironically, the Phillies had one of them.

'64 Phillies? They had a 6 game lead with 12 to play IIRC.

I think Philly was 6 ahead w/12 to go in the sixties. Willie Randolph shouldn't be the manager of the Mets past October 1st. No excusing this one.

I can't stomach watching him lead my team anymore.

The Orioles disappointed me by failing to crack .500 for the 10th consecutive season.

The Mets are easily the most disappointing overall though.

Oh yeah that Phillies team choked it pretty badly in '64. The '07 Mets tho have probably erased that Phillies collapse from most people's minds now.

I remember the Angels being a part of a big collapse in the 70's or 80's. They blew a lead of around 11-12 games.

You're probably thinking of the '95 Angels

                    per SI.Com

"On Aug. 9, the Angels led Texas and Seattle by 11 games in the AL West. Seattle and California ended up tied, and the Mariners won a one-game playoff when they pounded Angels ace Mark Langston 9-1"

11 game lead in '95? I think that's the one you're trying to mention.

Most dissapointing? Detroit Tigers. It seemed like if they were to finish 2nd AL Central, they'd surely win the WC. But they choked after AS Break.

That's the one. For some reason I thought it was way earlier than '95.

That Jays collapse in '87 was a heartbreaker. I mean having your season end on a 1-0 loss SUCKS!

I don't know why they call San Fran '93 a collapse. You win 103 games, you should be in the playoffs. Contrast that w/this year, where the D'Backs have home field for the NL w/just 90 wins. That one, you just have to give credit to the Braves.
