That's what I thought at first, but I'm pretty convinced he could do just fine.

Plus, as much as I would LOVE to have Beltran, we certainly don't need another OF. It's crowded enough. Gibbons, Mora, Matthews, Richards, Cordova, Conine every once in a while.

One other thing to note, they don't have T-Ba's stance in the game. It's a travesty, I tell ya. But, at least, Jorges throwing 99 MPH fastballs, giddy up! (Unlike WSB last year).

I was reading that the Royals want both Lopez and Julio for Beltran....so one of those guys might be gone before the year starts. Don't know what the pirates wanted for Giles. I almost feel like getting rid of Julio, he reminds me too much of Armondo Benitiz, who single handedly lost the 97 ALCS for us (Okay, w/ a little help from Lenny Webster).

The last thing we need is to lose our closer. He's done great in winter leagues I've read. We had this problem a few years ago, our bullpen is finally a good one. We don't need to change it at all. Except BJ Ryan.

      Ugh..the Timlin days...

I totally agree Conine...Look at how many starting pitchers we have this year. Though they may not all be all stars, Lopez, Daal, Ponson, etc. are all very solid pitchers. I think I see us trade a few of our pitchers and possibly someone like Richard, Bigbie, or Matos for Carlos Beltran or maybe even Griffey (but I doubt the Reds will trade him now). Maybe pitcher hungry Texas will want to give up one of their many 3rd base prospects (Blalock, Teixeira, or Lamb) for our pitching.
I seriously doubt we will trade Blalock or Teixeira...I think we have those guys penciled in for the next 5-10 years. But I bet anything we trade Palmeiro sometime this season to a contender or someone trying to be a contender. That will open up first base for Teixeira who is now working at first base in Spring Training. We still need more young arms, and a decent CF prospect.

Dude, if we get a chance to add Beltran for Lopez and a couple position players (OF'ers), I'd take that deal in a heartbeat. We do have several veteran arms to fill out the rotation, and I don't think we'd do any worse without Lopez, especially since it'll be offset by the addition of Beltran.

I still feel that we are the weakest at the catcher position. Fordyce is and will probably always be a marginal player and Gil, though he started off on fire early last season, really cooled off as the season went on. I was really hoping the O's were going to sign Ivan in the off-season, but they didn't want to pony up the bucks. Can't say I blame them...it's hard to lay the big money down on a guy that you don't know can stay healthy all season. And I think the whole Albert Belle deal really made them rethink the whole free agent thing. Are they still eating his contract, or are they finally done paying him off?

Camden May look the best of any stadia in the game, especially all the vines in center field, very nice, looks likes a photograph.

Dude, we're gonna pay Belle for a couple more years. Heck, even www.theorioles.com has Belle on their roster page! I agree that our "weakest" position is C (dude, how WEAK is C that it's the O's WEAKEST positions... it's not like we got any superstars in the other positions!), but Gil just tired out at the end. He never played that many games before. I hope Grover saw that and will rest Gil more often this year. Pudge will have a horrible year, mark my words. I'm glad we didn't get him. He'd be overpriced at 7mil.

I think we got Lightenberg for just that reason (to get rid of Julio), but it's just a thought.

                              This is Belle's last year.

I-Rod would have been a bust becuase he wanted a 1 year contract, and then left us for greener pastures. He almost signed a three year deal, close to 10 mill a year w/ incentives, until those dirty marlins came around.
