It's funny, everyone here in San Diego is all knee-jerky over Hoffman because of the two blown saves and not clearly seeing the big picture.

There were many winnable games before this one that the bigger problem on this team glared through. I'd rather find a solution to our hitting woes before I worry about whether Hoffman is done or not, because I'm not ready to send in Heath Bell (or any succcessful setup man) after one great season and after what happened in 2003.
Hoffman is the least of the team's worries as you said so well here. Who's the hitting coach for the Padres? Whatever he's doing is clearly not working. I've never seen a team that's been in playoff contention blow so many opportunities with men on base.

But I've never seen him get totally destroyed in a big game like Hoffman did tonight. 3 drives into the gap, intentional walk, and even the sac fly was hammered. Seemed like an inning where he would have needed complete luck to get out of.
How many big games has Rivera pitched in Colorado?

Kaz Matsui shows up all those Met fans that booed him mercilessly.

I liked him when he was here because he gave 110% all the time. Good to see him in the playoffs.

Wally Joyner and the team really improved when he took over a couple months ago, you think it's bad now? You should of seen this team 2 - 3 months ago. Pathetic.

True, but there were 4 straight scoreless innings before that. It's not impossible. He's one of the greatest closers of all time, he should be able to give them a chance.

Actually, its hard to know but I dont think Barrett had the plate completely blocked. But the ground view limits your depth perception and the behind the plate view is obscured by Holliday as he is sliding. Its just as likely he touched the plate as it is that he didnt.

I don't think he touched the plate, but if they had replay, and you needed indisputable evidence to overturn a call, I don't think it would have been overturned.
