It isn't another type of hitting, it just betters your chance of getting a hit, but you still have to guess right, aim, and time your swing. It doesn't mean a hit is automatic however.
If you pick the wrong pitch and swing, it hurts your chances of getting good wood on the ball. Definitely adds to the game. Makes you find out pitcher's tendencies and if you guess the pitch with the right batter up BOO-YAA! Back! Back! Back! Back! GONE!

LOL.. thanks man. I guess all i ever used before was to just press the swing button. I didnt know this feature even existed. Hrm.

Try using it, I guarantee once you get used to it, it will add another dimension to the batter/pitcher interface.

I love guessing fastball from a pitcher without great control after I am patient enough to get ahead in the count. It's a nice reward. Of course, when they throw me a changeup or breaking ball I get burned, but if they groove a fastball to try to avoid falling further behind, I usually do pretty well, particularly with the likes of Pujols, Edmons and Drew. Even Edgar Renteria hit a solo shot off of Randy Johnson last night after falling behind 2-0 when I guessed fastball and pounced on it.

It mentions this in the manual, but I've always used this technique in games with this option. You should really only use it in situations where you know your going to get a certain pitch. Like a 3-1 count, a 3-0 count, and 3-2 are pretty good examples of that. I also use it in clutch situations, where I need a hit to drive in a runner, Ill use it nore often than not.
