EA sheep (WARNING: Big RANT ahead)

This from another thread about WSB2k3

Quote:

hearing something like this I'm begining to convert to MVP.....still have triple play deep in my mind though

No offense, but that makes no sense to me. You are going to switch from one known game to a game that has NOTHING behind it except TP, which was a totally piece of crap. Switching to High Heat or All Star would have made sense, but I see the EA bandwagon is in motion and folk are jumping on that title just because it's from EA. It CAN'T be because of screen shots and movies. Overall, it just looks better than Triple Play and does some nice new things in the interface that I think other games should do. However, after being bitten in the arse by EA too many times with their idea of baseball, I think I'd fall to one of the other 3 titles until I know for a FACT that MVP is worth a damn.

What will it take for people to stop trusting EA to make the "greatest whatever game" out there!?!? Only Tiger Woods and, of course, the football games are any good. Why does EA get the benefit of the doubt? Yes, they've done this for a while, but that's not saying much considering that for the longest time, they've been the only company able to just throw money at products just for the sake of being to say they've done it for a while.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not anti-EA... Well, not yet anyway. They are the #1 publisher for a reason. They know what they are doing. MOST of what they do is pretty damned heavy handed and that's something I don't like. I would rather they dominated MORE by making the best products. In some cases, they do. I look at my PC collection and I can honestly say that right now C&C Generals and Medal of Honor are the bomb! SimCity4 is cool. Looking at my console ttiles, Madden, NCAA are the ****e. If more of their sports title were of equal quality, I could see this brand loyalty. But Triple Play was by far the WORST sports title for a LONG time in the baseball realm. All Star was terrible too. But High Heat was good. By now, it should have been the dominant baseball but it's not. TP still competed and that tells me that there are MANY EA sheep out there.

To the person I'm quoting, this isn't meant to offend you.

Can't agree more.... EA is WEAK..... the worst part is AI... very sports game they produced is Good Looking, but Horrible Gameplay..... but their success depend on those eye candies and sadly, most of the poeple only care about eye candies...

The fact is most of the gamers now are not hard-core gamers, regardless how u label yourself (OS gamers may be different )... they demand more about the presentation than the real stuff.... to say, the feeling of sports...

Eye candies are Weak and only for those who don't really care about sports.... (Sports are about strengh, speed, strategies, not about some pretty faces, fancies clothes) just my opinions...

I dislike EA as much as the next guy, but MVP looks promising.

I don't think people would have given it a chance unless they knew it was gonna be an improvement over Triple Play. So far the game reads as a huge improvement to Triple Play.

We have our opinions. I'm gettin MVP, b/c personally I feel I'll enjoy the game more than ASB or WSB. But you are entitled to your opinion.

Calling those that buy MVP sheeps, however, is kinda jumpin in front to quickly.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer

I guess when you wrote this post that you didn't realize after listing all those games that EA has their hands full. They put out amazing game titles, especially my favorite war game, Battlefield 1942. Madden is my favorite football title, but it could have been better. EA Sports is just catching up to people. Their baseball title, Triple Play, was more of an arcade genre rather than a sim genre. They are starting to realize that the people playing these games only want a realistic game, not one where everytime you hit the ball it goes over the wall making for a very high scoring game (for example, I beat the Yankees 105-0 one time). They devoted more of their time to the football title and a little bit more of their time to the basketball title. Just now they are devoting their time to the baseball title. Hopefully once they get this game figured out, they will start working on the crappy FIFA title. I think in the future, EA and Sega (just like Madden and NFL 2K3) will again be battling for the #1 spot, this time for baseball. Sega, from what I've heard is leading the basketball series for realism, while Madden is leading the football series. I hope to see MVP leading WSB sometime (while adding the same features as WSB, that would cool!!!).

What would be really cool is if people waited until the games were released, played them, and then made their judgements.

EA made the best football game EVER this year (NCAA 2003), and they've had great success with many other games in the past. They've lost their way on some of them (NHL, Triple Play), but their track record over the long haul is very good. To dismiss them and their game before playing it is ignorant.

I've never understood "manufacturer loyalty". I could care less who makes the games, as long as i like them, and they're worth my money. Having a pro-EA or anti-EA bias just limits you from enjoying some potentially good titles.

I don't agree with all of your statement. EA's other games(college football,Madden,Hockey, etc) are owned by alot of folks. These same folks claim "EA stinks". If EA put's a good team of people to work on the games, they come out with great games. Look at Tiger, Madden, etc. these games took alot of work by a competent group of people. Triple Play was a homer fest and a WIDE COLLECTION of worker's on that game. The result, we know what the result was. Now MVP has a team, and the game should get the attention that is has so much needed. IMO right now is graphically better than HH, ASB,(from the pics I saw)Inside Pitch, and possibly WSB. I can't tell with the last one because not enough game footage to judge. And take into account that EA started over from SCRATCH, from the bottom. Other games have been worked on for a few years now, and get beat in the graphics/animations department.

When did you guys end your TP\EA relationships?

For me, the 99 TP with the backwards pinch hitter was my last nerve. I retturned that game and never even smelled another TP game since.

The 98 PS1 game I have fond memories of, nothing else though.
