Fellas, I have been a HH fan for a while now and this year is no different. However, I play on MVP for more of a challenge as I dont feel all-star provides enough of one. However, for you guys who are playing on All-Star or MVP, here are the keys to winning (I am currently 5-3 on MVP):
- I start every batter with a strike. Getting ahead of ALL batters it the key. The first time around the batting order, start most guys with a fastball down the middle. They usually take it the first time to get a feel for the pitcher. However, DONT DO IT the second time around or you will be watching balls sail. Second - fourth times around, use other pitches, but still try and get ahead of each and every hitter. After you get that first strike, then try to nibble corners, but be careful because the computer is good and takes balls. Don't get too cautious either or you will be behind a lot of hitters and be forced to groove strikes.
- NEVER BE PREDICTABLE!!! If you have a pattern of fastball, curveball, and then slider, the computer WILL catch on to it and smash you around. Mix up your pitches.
- Take some pitches when batting. The computer will walk anywhere from 2-6 batters per game so dont waste opportunities swinging at garbage. Also, be patient. If you see a nice fat changeup coming down the middle, DO NOT try to mash the button harder or swing early. This will make you hit routine pop-ups and harmless grounders. Be patient and wait for the ball to come to you before you swing.
- If you see that the computer pitcher is nibbling corners, use the D-pad to aim your bat. If you aim the bat correctly, you can even sometimes take a bad pitch for a hit.
- Dont be overzealous on the base paths. The computer has a knack for picking you off at the most opportune moments. Dont try to steal everytime you get on base or you wont be scoring often. And dont be stupid! Dont try stealing with your catchers! Also, only try and steal third if it is ABSOLUTELY necessary. It is very difficult to steal third so be careful.
- Last but not least, dont overuse your players. Use a five-man rotation to give your pitchers sufficient rest and sit your starters down every now and then to give them a rest as they DO tire and it WILL affect their play.
If you follow these simple suggestions, you should be doing better in no time . . . with a little practice, of course.
