I'm looking for the best possible combo of fun/realism. Here's what I've found so far..
HH PS2 - Rendered nearly unplayable by choppy, or absent, animation routines. Buggy. Not fun. BTW, last year's HH was my favorite baseball game.
WSB (all systems) - Exhaustive roster/franchise options. Plays like Fakeball. I swear there's more line drive doubles in this game than any other title, even on the higher difficulties. If you like the RPG-ish elements of "interacting" with your bench coaches, and love graphics, get this. I personally don't care if Jimmy Hayseed tells me that so and so "could use more time in the cage." Scripted, dumb, and irrelavent when you can hit .300 with ANYONE in this game. Cursor for hitting, even when small, feels big enough to mash the ball. Ive taken inside jam shots, swung late, and still laced the ball to the gap. Maybe if I was Sammy Sosa, but not with freakin Mark Grudzielaniek.
MVP (xbox and ps2) - Best all-around looking game on the market (visually). Pitches come in with REALISTIC break, curves snap downward and so on. Don't believe me? Watch a replay and you can zoom in to where you see the SEAMS tumbling down as it heads toward the plate. AI not as aggressive as HH or WSB, but it still keeps me comin back. The timing/placement hitting yields pretty realistic results...grips? CPU does not strike out enough, I don't strike out enough. Also, I haven't hit enough HR's, but that's a good thing. Team goals in Franchise Mode are cool, and the 1/2-sims are great. Jump in during any sim and try to affect the outcome. Good idea. Plus, excuse me for being a little bitch, but EA's menus/stats/interface screens are always the most clear-cut and easy to navigate.
ASB - I will NEVER play this game. Hits don't look real, the pitches move at a million miles an hour but barely break, animations suck...This game's a joke.
HH Xbox - By far the most realistic of this year's crop. Everything the PS2 version wishes it could be, with smooth pitching, hitting and fielding...pitches are a bit slow but that can be tweaked. Ball still looks somewhat "big fat white circle-ish" coming in, but who cares when a game plays this good. Remains to be seen if it steals more time from MVP on the PS2, but this is one impressive title in its own right.
Oh, and MVP has BROKEN BATS!!!! *sucker for broken bats*
