After a business class the other day I talked about this with a few friends that are also big time gamers like me. If EA buys Sega that it will be EA's chance to reclaim the sports crown they once owned. They will combine the best parts of Sega Sports and the best part of EA Sports with the intent of not losing any Sega Loyalists to other companes such as Microsoft. If EA can retain Sega fans, and continue to make the EA fans happy they will have an overwhelming share of the market. It makes more sense to try and make both setns of fans happy, rather then lose such a large consumer basis to another company.
Remember this: In the Business world it is survival of the fittest. Sega has been on a downard swing ever since the Dreamcast bombed. Sega was forced into software only sales, and to be honest only there sports division has had success. Even with that success NFL 2k3 did not sell nearly as well this year, and NCAA2k3 has alot of catching up to do with EA Sports NCAA Football. EA has become a giant, in sports and in other areas. Hopefully if EA pruchases Sega they will see the oppurtunity they have to seize the sports gaming marker rather then flush away a chance to make some great games.
