At Yahoo Finance, you get free stock quotes, up-to-date news, portfolio management resources, international market data, social interaction and mortgage rates that help you manage your financial life.
If either of these two scenarios (Microsoft buys Sega or EA buys Sega) play out, it'll be terrible for anyone who loves sports videogames. If EA buys Sega for example, you know the first thing they'll do is shut down Sega's sports division, thereby taking out one of their largest competitors in sports gaming in one fell swoop (hasta la vista World Series Baseball, NBA 2K3, et al.) If Microsoft buys Sega, the results are a little unclear: would Microsoft shut down their own internal sports division and give way to Sega's or would it be the other way around? Either way, someone's sports game franchise would cease to exist. I think we'll all agree that more competition amongst the videogame companies is best for the consumer. If a deal for Sega goes through, they'll be less of it and gamers get shafted. Thoughts anyone?

If EA buys SEGA most if not ALL of the VC developers will leave and find work elsewhere, possibly for Microsoft. These guys want to make sports games and they will, the only question is for whom. Hopefully Microsoft.Comment

Re: Potentially Bad News for Sports Videogaming (the end of WSB?)
I believe if MS buys sega, the sega sports people will incorporate some of their good points of the game with the MS sports games to make one hell of a game.
I can see it---WSB and IP good points to make a great baseball game or Nhl2k4 with xbox quality graphics. Nfl2k4 combined with Fevers graphics and sound quality with added momentum to challenge the beast madden.
EA would have to really ante up.Comment

That's awesome. If EA buys Sega, that would kick ***...I guess that Tick tock commercial really means something now!
<hr /></blockquote><font class="post">
How would EA buying Sega be good for any gamers? All that would mean would be that there would be less games to choose from on the market, and no one to challenge EA.
<hr /></blockquote><font class="post">
EA could own Sega and Sega still produce games....The Sega brand would just be making money for Electonic Arts.

No EA would kill off the Sega Sports line, just like they did in other buyouts. They killed off the NHL Powerplay series, they tried to kill of the NHL Hitz series, they'll do the same here.Comment

Re: Potentially Bad News for Sports Videogaming (the end of WSB?)
if microsoft bought it would they still produce the game for PS2 or just their own xbox. I don't want to spend that kind of money again on a console. I would rather it be in the hands of those guys than EA's though.Comment

It's not that EA's scary...it's just that a large part of their games have GOTTEN WORSE. Triple play, NBA live, their hockey series...the only exception has been Madden. And quite honestly, after 10 years on various systems, I may be ready for somethin' non-madden...the ps2 gameplay's been virtually the same in the last three incarnations...I don't see a whole lot of improvement coming out of EA. That's my only point. It's not a personal vendetta.

well now they're games have GOTTEN BETTER take NBA Live 2003, MVP, NCAA MM, and NHL 2003 have all been improvements over previous versionsComment

Improvements from last year could not have been very hard though.....They took thier games a step back last year just to "improve" them to look good in the PR area..... IMOJoshua:

That is quite possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard anyone say. to say that a game company is making their games worse so that they can turn around and get pub because they're better? Now I've heard it all.Comment
