Felix Pie is not ready to play everyday. He can't hit...period. I'm tired of waiting for these prospects to pan out. First it was Patterson, and now its Pie. Pie has only showed that he can catch the ball and thats it. He is a career AAA player. Say it with me "Prospects are good for trading and thats it."

You guys are acting like Rich Hill is the second coming of Tom Seaver. The man was 11-8 with a 3.92 era. True he had an excellent strikeout to walk ratio. But just like in the stock market you have got to sell high. And right now this is as high as Hill has been. If the Cubs don't make this move and Hill has a regression you'll all crucify the Cubs for not getting Crawford.
Take a look at his stats, they are truly STAGGERING! He has been buried in Tampa for so long he has not been getting recognition for the star he is.

So please Mr. Hendry bring us a Crawford for Christmas
Yeah, I was being sarcastic, but thanks.

Pie can't hit...period? He hit .362 with a .563 SLG in 229 AAA AB's as a 22 year old this year, while hitting a little over .200 in a sprinkle of chances in the Bigs this year. Yeah, that guys had his chance, its time to move on.

You cant say a guy is a "career AAA player" when he hasnt had a career in AAA yet. Give him a chance.

Rich Hill had an excellent K/BB ratio, but he didnt win enough and his ERA wasnt satisfactory? Wins, losses, and ERA are so damn overated in this game. A good K/BB ratio is MUCH more important than wins, losses, and ERA. Much more.

Not that i'm against this trade, i'm just confused by some folks reasoning of why we should get rid of certain guys.

I definitely agree on wins and losses, too much outside influence. But while ERA is flawed (defense affects it some) it is an important stat. RA (which doesn't take out based on subjectivity of calling errors) is an important stat. As is DICE ERA (or an equivelant). Those three can work together to draw conclusions.

Opponent BA, OBP, and SLG are important stats we don't read a lot about. Drives me nuts.

K/BB is very important too but is limited. Some guys don't strike many out but are amazing pitchers. Others allow guys on but are great at getting out of jam. With pitchers, many stats are needed to truly judge them for what they are.

But the urgency to win is at a fever pitch and I don't want to hear about developing rookies right now.

Tell me you don't feel how close this team is to breaking through. Last year we had the best lineup since 84. This team is soo close, we just need a few more pieces...and those pieces are not in there farm system.
I guess I'm in the minority in thinking that last years club wasn't near the level of the 2003 club. We are at least two pitchers away from even being able to compete for a championship.

We would have been swept by every team in the AL if we would have gotten to the world series this year.

Definitely this club was much worse than the club in 03. They had alot more veteran players, and were really confident after the Pittsburgh screw over deal. I still think that year the Cubs were lucky, the Cards/Stros both could of won that division. Look at the teams record in the division, it was much harder to make the playoffs. The cards won like 87 games and finished what 3rd??????

My fault, sarcasm is ever so hard to pick up in writing.

Yeah Pie's stats were outstanding in the minors. But there is just one caveat...it was in the minors! Dude is an outstanding fielder, and would be an asset roaming center in Wrigley, but he can't hit his way out of a wet paper bag. Which is why we need Crawford. With Crawford on one side and the free swinging Soriano on the other side, the Cubs won't really on Pie's offense. He can just go play awesome defense and any offense he gives would be gravy.
Now I know you said you were not against the trade (and I don't think anyone could be). And yes I agree that Wins and losses are overrated (don't really agree that ERA is). Hill is good young pitcher, which is why you have to include him. Tampa is not going to give up Crawford for Kevin Hart or Sean Marshall, and if it means getting a 5 tool player who is still young then Hill has to go.

I agree with asrabbit about the 2003 team. There pitching is what carried them and they had veterans like Alou, Karros, and Grudzielanek. But the bullpen was pretty bad with exception of Borowski.
